Our adoption story:
Even before we were married in 2016 we wanted to adopt. 2021 we got started in the fostering journey. But we didn’t feel confident about that direction. It was late 2022 when we were connected with a ministry in Kenya, sounded like they were open to international adoption. But then we found out that Kenya is closed to international adoption.
We explored other adoption options, we talked with other adoptive parents, attended a workshop at our church.
It has seemed like a bunch of go, stop, yes, no. All of it to refine and purpose it.
Sara read one time “if you ever question your calling to adopt, remember they were never called to be orphans” she also read a devotion that talked about the percentage of people that want to adopt is low and the percentage of people that actually follow through with adoption is even lower. Those things on top of our original desire put a fire deep inside. We would be miserable if we never ended up adopting.
We boiled down to like 9 countries when God reminded Sara, we are seeking the lost. We looked closely at India and Taiwan, followed the suggestion for Hong Kong for 2 years just to find out that we don’t make enough marginal income. We don’t give up. So India here we come. Perhaps this will be where our child is.
So here we are trusting God to take care of this on top of what we ask for with our camp ministry. It is absolutely clear to us that God will see us through. And it’s clear that He wants His people to take care of the widows and orphans. God wants us to adopt. He will make it happen, so I won’t doubt His plan, even if/when the storm comes.
Psalm 133 has been our family verse for years. And has taken a new meaning since choosing to adopt internationally. We absolutely love the image of Heaven being filled with ALL people. Not just those that look like us. We are thrilled to have the call to unify cultures in our home.
