OUR STORY:
Jess and I have been married for eight incredible years! We love hiking through national parks, listening to country music, serving at church, watching sports, helping on the family ranch, and spending time together. However, our greatest love and joy comes from being parents. We have two biological children, Caselyn is three and Weston is one. Caselyn loves to wear anything that sparkles, but you will always catch her with dirt on her hands and face. Weston is unafraid, adventurous, and is always begging to go outside. They are so excited to welcome a new baby brother or sister, and already have big plans about how they are going to play and teach them all the fun things!
Our family lives in a small, rural town in West Texas where Jess serves as the head football coach and athletic coordinator. We love to cheer him on with snacks from the concession stand! Claire served as a physical therapist for several years before following her dream of becoming a stay-at-home mom. Our days are filled with everything from Bible study around the breakfast table to trips to sporting events, serving at church, helping out on the family ranch, and spending lots of time with cousins. There is always music playing in our home, and we love singing worship songs at the top of our lungs. We believe every good and perfect gift is from God, and so we treasure family deeply in our hearts.
We feel so honored to answer the Lord’s call to add to our family through adoption. We feel a deep longing to add to the joy within our home, and we are committed to raising our children without distinction, only with unconditional love.
We have prayerfully considered adoption since before we were married. As a child, Claire petitioned her parents for adoption on more than one occasion because she desired every child to experience the love, opportunity, and unity her family offered. While Claire’s parents shared their family in different ways, we believe God was preparing her heart to welcome a child from a different background into our future family. We have journals, prayer cards, goals for our family, and sticky-notes from divine moments and encounters where the Lord reminded, guided, and encouraged adoption for our family.
From Claire’s point of view – My very first best friend growing up was adopted. This cultivated a kingdom view of family. It became clear that family was ordained by God, not by genetics, and their family was filled with love, laughter, and unity. I longed to be a part of the greater mission. Most recently, my community Bible study leader was a birth mother in the 1960s and she shared her perspective on placing her son for adoption. They were able to connect many years later and her life story was one of bravery, strength, redemption, and resilience. I wept as I reflected on whom God would allow to be the birth mother in our story. I pray, journal, and think about our birth mother often. My deepest desire is for her to know her worth and that we will always champion her to find hope, healing, and abundant life through Jesus.
From Jess’s Point of view – Adoption has been a part of my life since I was a child. My best friend growing up was my cousin, and he and his sibling were adopted. I think God was opening my mind to the idea of adopting even from an early age. Adoption was an incredible tool that God used to form the family I knew and loved. For Claire and I, adoption has been a constant conversation. We have prayed about adoption since we first were married, and we believe God has been preparing for us to move forward in this process. Now, it is an honor to step out in faith and obedience.
We believe we are ready to adopt because we have been affirmed through dreams, visions, and interactions that are only from the Lord. We have been blessed with an incredible family; however, there is still a missing piece. We both believe that our missing piece lies within a child that was not created with our DNA, but was crafted in hearts from the very beginning. We are infinitely blessed that our parents, grandparents, and friends are fully invested and committed to loving this child with unconditional, unwavering, and unifying love. Our community is in agreement with our belief that every child is made in the image of God, and will not oppose any gender, ethnicity, or background. We are all ecstatic to welcome this missing link! We believe in raising spiritually mature children who are dedicated to serving the Lord, and that their love for Jesus produces an overflow of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We will support all of our children in the activities and strengths that God has crafted within them, and we will do our very best to encourage, grow, and develop each of their giftings. We also vow to maintain open and honest dialogue about our child’s birth parents. Jess and I feel the birth parents are undeservingly blessing us with their greatest gift, their own child. We view their choice with the highest regard of respect and will only communicate to our children the birth parents’ selflessness, courage, bravery, and strength to make a choice to choose abundant life for their baby. We pray and hope that their decision of adoption is not colored in shame, embarrassment, or guilt. We pray and hope this moment is a beautiful and courageous part of their story and a launching pad for hope, redemption, and opportunity.
