The Sextons Adopt

Meredith Sexton Chattanooga, Tennessee

Our passion for adoption has grown so much through many prayers and convictions and we are so excited to take this next step.

We have two biological children and have begun our journey to grow our family through adoption. Will has always been passionate about protecting the unborn, and this led to a burden to do everything he can to protect them. To him, the logical conclusion to that problem has always been adoption. He lovingly and persistently brought it up to me, though I was more hesitant at first. Until recently, adoption always seemed intangible: a big picture, something far away and unrealistic. I now know, without hesitation that it is only through God’s grace and working in my heart that the passion for adoption has grown.

As Will continued to bring up the idea, his fervor spurred me on to pray persistently that the Lord would change my heart on the subject and give me clarity and peace about it. And He did. It’s as simple and intimate and earth-shattering as that. I can only describe it as the Lord softening my heart.

The idea of adoption brings us such joy, knowing that our adoption story began before the foundations of the earth. Ephesians 1:4-5 says, “even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.” Long before we were thought of or known by our earthly parents, God had begun our adoption story, knowing that He would one day stir the fire in our souls to grow our family in the same way.

In our parenthood journey so far, we have relied on the strength and comfort He offers, we have learned to be more patient, long-suffering, persistent, and to advocate for our children before the throne of God. We know there will be so many more ways to grow as we parent a child who does not share our DNA and may not look like us. We welcome the challenges and joys that parenthood brings in all of its forms and are so excited to share our home and love with another precious child.

We know that one of the most common reasons couples don’t pursue adoption is the expense. We don’t want that to stop us, but we also know that it will take a lot of support to bring this baby into our home. With Will being called to full-time ministry and me working a part-time job while staying at home with our children, the simple truth is that we are working extra hard during this season to provide for this need. We have set this goal knowing that we will be doing everything we can financially, as well, to prepare for this new little one. We hope you will prayerfully consider partnering with us in this way. Plus, there's a really amazing opportunity right now to have your donation doubled! Through the generosity of a matching grant, the first $4,205 we raise will be doubled, for a total of $8,410!

Thank you for taking the time to listen to our story,
