I was first invited to the Suubi (Hope) Center in Bukeka, Uganda in 2010 with a medical mission team. The warmth of the villagers that welcomed our team was overwhelming. In the midst of their extreme poverty, they gave us gourds, melons, and chickens. And yet their children were dying of easily treatable diseases: malaria, intestinal parasites, pneumonia, meningitis, malnutrition. For a modest cost, these lives could be saved by basic medical care. That is what the Suubi Medical Center has been doing since 2012: providing life-saving quality medical care to children and adults in Bukeka, Uganda. Children are no longer dying of treatable diseases. They are given a chance to thrive and grow into leaders in their families and communities and to end the cycle of generational poverty. The gospel is being shared and received by many, as they see the love of the messengers helping with education, food security, job training, and medical care.
The Suubi Medical Center treats 60 patients daily, with a staff of 3 nurses, 3 Physician Assistants, 2 Doctors, and 3 laboratory technicians, including supplies and medications and for all patients. Patients pay what they are able to pay for their medical care, but many families cannot afford even the $5-10 for malaria medicines or other treatments, so $5800 per month ($70,000 per year) will allow Suubi to provide quality life-saving medical care for the community.
