Lowman Family Adoption

Cory Lowman
Cory Lowman Camp Point, Illinois

We are the Lowman Family; Cory, Kelsi, Abe, Hazel, and Riley.  We have been married for 14 years and have been blessed with our three biological children.  We have been talking about adopting since the beginning of our relationship.  Our road to parenthood hasn’t been the smoothest, but it has brought us our three wonderful children.  Now, as we are looking to expand our family with another baby we know that adoption, rather than pregnancy, is the right way to go.

As Christians, we believe that all life is precious.  We know that there are women out there right now believing the same thing, but unable to make a life for the child they are carrying.  We know that we can show God’s love to an expectant mother, by adopting and loving the child she is carrying.

We have been saving for this journey for several years.  However, the cost of domestic infant adoption is much more than we anticipated.  Once we started the process, we found that we were going to need help.  We need financial help from our family and friends.  We can’t do this alone.  The great thing about this fundraiser is that we are raising funds with a matching grant.  So every dollar you give (up to a designated amount) is actually matched dollar-for-dollar.  All of that money will go to our personal adoption fund for us to use to bring home our newest family member.

Thank you so much for supporting us as we plan to adopt a baby.

Still in the Wait

April 23, 2022

Many times a week I am asked, “How is the adoption going?”  I still have the same answer, “We are still waiting.”  We have to be closer than when we started, but with adoption, there is no ending time.  There is no magic date where you know it will be complete.  So each day, while it may be closer, still seems just as far away as the day before.

When we started the process to adopt we were told that we would become adoption advocates, by default.  People don’t know much about adoption or the adoption process, and it would be our priviledge to teach them.  With that being said, here is what it means when I say we are “waiting.”  For us, that means we have become active with several adoption agencies around the country.  Most of them proceed with adoption the same, the birth mother comes in and makes an adoption plan.  That plan will probably include details of what she would like her baby’s adoptive family to look like.  If we match the mom’s details, we get an email.  That email includes a lot of information about the birth parents.  We then have a choice about whether we feel that situation is right for us.  If we choose to present, our profile will be shown to the birth mom along with 4-5 other profiles.  The birth mom then gets to choose the family.

When we first went active at agencies, I took time and applied to many grants.  We were awarded several, this being one of them.  But now, there really isn’t anything I can do.  Many grants need a family matched before you can apply.  So, once we do get matched, I will have a lot of work to do!

Things being what they are in the world, adoption slowed way down in 2020 and 2021.  Adoption agencies are finally starting to report that things look a little more normal as far as numbers go.  That gives us hope, as we wait.

This adoption process and wait has been very hard.  We still feel like there is a baby for us.  We are waiting for our family to be complete.  Our kids ask, almost daily, about our new baby.  Riley has been setting aside her clothes that are too small for her new baby.  According to her we are getting two, one boy and one girl.  I would love that, as I have always wanted twins!  But it is so hard to tell them that I don’t know when the baby will be here.  I am so ready to have an answer to their question.
