We are the McCalmon family, and we currently serve in Kathmandu, Nepal. We have two boys, ages 7 and 5. We have lived here in Nepal for over six years, and we love calling this country our home! Before we ever got married, Madison and I discussed adoption and our desire to one day give an orphan a home. We believe that adoption is not only a worthy cause but a biblical one. Children deserve to be part of a family. The Bible is full of commands to the Christian to care for the orphan, and just as we as believers have been adopted into God’s family, so we also are called to adopt.
We are in the process of adopting a girl from Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan is a beautiful country located in Central Asia that borders China. The country is full of mountains and nomadic people. It’s the second poorest country in Central Asia after Tatijikistan with over 30% of the population living below the poverty line.
In order to adopt from Kyrgyzstan, we will be working through an adoption agency in the US, Lifeline Children’s Services. We will be hosting a social worker from that agency who will fly all the way to Nepal to conduct portions of our homestudy. Once all of the paperwork is completed, we will then submit our dossier to Kyrgyzstan with the hopes of being matched with a child. Once we are matched, we will travel as a family 3 different times to Kyrgyzstan. The first trip will be a bonding trip to meet and spend time with our daughter. The second trip will be to complete the court hearing, and the third will be to pick her up and take her home!
The process will be full of paperwork and figuring out how to complete all the steps while living abroad. Our family is excited to walk this path as the Lord leads us.
We need a team of people to walk with us through this process. Would you consider joining our family through this journey? We believe that the enemy does NOT want children in homes. Please pray that me and Madison will daily abide in Christ and that He will make our path forward clear.
Will you also consider giving to our adoption financially? Because we are living abroad and our family will have to travel 3 times to Kyrgyzstan, we are hoping to raise $50,000 through grants and donations. We have been awarded a $5,000 matching grant from the Shoreline Church Adoption Fund administered by Lifesong for Orphans. This means that every donation will be matched dollar for dollar.
Thank you so much for praying for our family! Please feel free to email any questions you may have to madelynmccalmon@gmail.com.
