While adoption has been on our hearts for a long while, given its nearness to the very heart of God, it was 6 years ago, while pregnant with our youngest, that we watched a Netflix documentary on orphans in China. While all children are precious in His sight, it was through watching that film that God gave us a heart specifically for the children of China. Though we knew it wasn't yet the time, God certainly used the film as further fuel on the fire of our adoption desires.
Though many factors have kept us in waiting for a season, in December, we began sensing that the timing was right for our family through much prayer and conversation. After some enlightening conversations with several individuals, we obeyed God's voice by stepping out of the boat and beginning the process of international adoption. As we've said before, we are aware of how costly this journey can be (well beyond simply the financial aspects), but we believe this little girl we hope to adopt is, like all children, made in the image of God and precious. And though the way is arduous and steep, we know that He is with us. We move forward trusting in His ability to redeem and make something beautiful out of hardships and messiness. We’ve seen him do that in our lives, and our prayer is that He uses us as He does that in the life of our adopted children.
