Help Bring Mabel Home

If you know us, you know one thing about our family: we love adoption. We have three incredible children through adoption—from South Korea, India, and the United States. Each one has changed us forever, and each adoption has taught us that family isn’t defined by biology. It’s built through love, faith, and commitment.

Now, God is writing another chapter.

We’re adopting a seven-year-old little girl we will name Mabel, from Côte d’Ivoire. Mabel was born blind, has a rare genetic condition called Fraser syndrome, and weighs only about 20 pounds. She has spent much of her life confined to a crib with little access to the opportunities she desperately needs.

When we began our adoption journey years ago, “blind” was a special need that scared us. In 2014, when we were reviewing files from India, our daughter Mia’s file simply said, “She is blind.” We asked to look at files for other children.

But God kept bringing us back to her.

Eventually we said yes, and bringing Mia home changed not only our family but also the way we see the world. Today, at 17, she has very low vision, but her blindness has become one of the least defining things about her. She is joyful, independent, and sees people in a way I wish we all could—with her heart instead of basing it on their appearance. We’ve been introduced to an incredible community of blind and visually impaired friends here in Alabama, and this summer she was even named Camper of the Year at Alabama School for the Blind camp.

Because of Mia, there wasn’t a moment of hesitation when we learned Mabel was totally blind. We know blindness doesn’t limit a person’s ability to live a rich, beautiful, joy-filled life. We simply can’t wait to welcome another amazing daughter home.

We love her so much already and cannot wait to bring Mabel home! We’re grateful we can provide her with the therapies, opportunities, and support she’s never had access to.

As a family, we love helping others adopt. Through our small nonprofit, we’ve had the privilege of awarding adoption grants and cheering other families on as they bring children home. Asking for help ourselves, however, doesn’t come naturally. We believe as we invite others to be a part of Mabel’s story to our family, God will prompt hearts. So that’s what we’re doing today—not asking, but extending an invitation.

Our adoption expenses will total approximately $50,000, including agency fees and international travel. At the same time, we’re preparing to sell our home in order to build a house that will accommodate our growing family, adding another layer of financial complexity during an already challenging housing market.

God has already been so faithful.

In just the past few weeks, more than $20,000 has been pledged toward bringing Mabel home, and we currently have a $9,750 agency payment due. Even more exciting, have been awarded a $7000 matching grant from Hearts of Compassion (Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Ridgeland, MS) and a $2000 matching grant Fund administered by Lifesong for Orphans, meaning every dollar given through the matching campaign helps unlock additional funding for Mabel’s adoption.

We have complete confidence that God will provide exactly what is needed. We don’t know how He’ll do it, but we’ve watched Him write stories like this before.

If you would like to be part of Mabel’s story, there are several ways you can help:

  • Pray for Mabel as she waits.
  • Pray for our family as we prepare to bring her home.

Preparing a Place

August 1, 2026

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a month since our last update. So much has happened, and we’re continually amazed by how God is making a way, one step at a time.

When we said “yes” to pursuing adoption, we knew it would require more than paperwork and travel—it would require preparing a home where Mabel can thrive.

As we continue learning and preparing, we know that some of her needs won’t be fully understood until she’s home. We also know that we want our home to be a place where she feels safe, secure, and loved from the very beginning.

One dream we have is creating a sensory space just for her—a calm, comforting room where she can explore safely, regulate when she’s overwhelmed, and experience the world through touch, sound, movement, and play. We hope it will become a place where she can rest, learn, and simply enjoy being a child.

God has also continued opening doors in ways we never could have planned.

Although our neighborhood currently has several homes for sale, we received a full-price offer on our home just one month after listing it. We were honestly amazed. Our new home is currently in the framing stage, and if everything stays on schedule, we’re hoping to move in around the same time as our first bonding trip to meet Mabel this fall.

Some days it feels like life is moving at lightning speed. Other days we’re reminded how much waiting is still involved in international adoption. Through every high and low, we’ve seen God’s faithfulness again and again.

We are deeply grateful for every prayer, every encouraging message, every grant we’ve been awarded, and every donation that’s helped bring us one step closer to bringing Mabel home. Your generosity has encouraged us more than you know.

There are still significant expenses ahead—including international travel, home study updates, legal and immigration fees, and preparing our home for Mabel’s arrival. If you’ve been considering supporting our adoption journey, we would be so grateful. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us continue moving toward the day we can finally bring our daughter home.

Most of all, please continue praying. Pray for Mabel, for those caring for her, for wisdom throughout the remaining steps of this process, for smooth travel and paperwork, and for our family as we prepare a place for the daughter we’ve already come to love.

Thank you for walking this journey with us. We truly couldn’t do it alone.

Happy Birthday, Mabel

July 9, 2026

One Month Update: $18,341 Raised!

In just one month, thanks to the incredible generosity of Hearts of Compassion, Lifesong, friends, and even strangers, we’ve raised $18,341 toward bringing Mabel home. We are overwhelmed with gratitude. Every donation, every prayer, every share, and every word of encouragement reminds us that we’re not walking this journey alone.

We recently celebrated Mabel’s 8th birthday from across the world. We baked a cake, sang “Happy Birthday,” and sent gifts with a family who will soon be traveling to Africa. As we celebrated here, we couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that Mabel has likely never had a birthday celebration before. She had no idea that, thousands of miles away, a family was singing to her and celebrating the precious life God gave her.

Moments like these make the distance feel both impossibly far and incredibly close. We are counting down the days until we can celebrate with her instead of for her. We can’t wait to hold her, welcome her home, and make up for the birthdays and milestones we’ve missed together.

Thank you for helping make that day possible. Every step forward is because of this amazing community, and we are so thankful you’re part of Mabel’s story.

We Are Blown Away!

June 29, 2026

When we began praying for Mabel, it was for her to have a family. The more we prayed, the more we envisioned her as our daughter. We knew we would have to sell our current home and buy another larger home to accommodate our growing family, if we said yes. It was a huge leap of faith as these are both large financial commitments. Today, we learned that our $9,000 matching grant has been met!!! We have over $18,100 in our account! The most generous people have given small and big amounts, so we can bring our girl home. We are still accepting donations for the remainder of what we will owe our agency and travel, but this update isn’t about that. It’s about how good our Lord is to equip us for something He has called us to do. We consider every prayer, donation, and word of encouragement as a gift from Him. To those of you who have given, we pray He blesses you and keeps you!
