Our India Adoption Journey…

Morgan Terch
Morgan Terch Birmingham, Alabama

We met in 2015 working at Lifeline Children’s Services (which is a neat part of our story that Gospel-centered orphan care and adoption is really what united us from the beginning). Morgan was serving as a social worker in the India program, and Jeffrey was serving as a Partnership Coordinator on the (un)adopted team. It was there, at Lifeline, that we first met and several months in, started dating. We were then married in May of 2017.

God began stirring both of our hearts towards adoption individually, even before we were married. We see adoption in this world as a portrayal of the Gospel to the world around us. Also, the command to care for widows and orphans is clear in James 1:27, and we desire to walk in obedience to this command through adoption. Jeffrey lived in East Asia for 2 years, and Morgan has spent several months in South Asia (Nepal and India) and also continues to serve as the manager over Lifeline’s India program. We have felt the pull towards Asia as a couple and even recently wrestled with the decision of whether or not God was calling us to move to Nepal long-term. He clearly closed that door for this season, and has since really stirred in our hearts that it is time to take this step of beginning the adoption process from India.

Ever since being married, we have prayed for God to burden our hearts when it is time to take the first step of the adoption journey. We believe that He is sovereign over all things and sees our child’s birthmother even now. We have prayed for her, trusting that God sees her and will lay it on our hearts when it’s time to begin the journey so that our paths intersect with our child at the right time. We have recently felt a sense of compulsion that the time to take the first step is now, knowing that the process could be lengthy. We are trusting God with the timing of when we will be matched and bring our child home, but we know that we are called to be faithful in taking this first step. The rest is in His hands, and we pray that He is glorified throughout this journey, both pre and post adoption.
