Woodbury Family Adoption from Colombia

Rosemarie Woodbury West Chicago, Illinois

We have BIG news! As many of you know we are adopting a child from Colombia!

We have now identified a child who we are pursuing to adopt and we hope will be a part of our family soon! He’s the sweetest little 2 year old boy with a big smile. We aren’t allowed to share any pictures until the adoption is final so you’ll just have to believe us. 🙂

But as all stories start, we should start from the beginning. After Rosemarie’s senior year of high school, she went on a week long mission trip to Ecuador. Seeing so many beautiful children who had so little impacted her life more than she knew. We started dating senior year of high school and so when she came home and shared her experience with Ryan, we began discussing adoption from the very beginning. As our relationship continued we discussed how we would like to grow our family through adoption one day. In fact when our oldest child was only 6 months old we went to an adoption meeting because we knew that one day we would hope to share our love with a child. Fast forward 8 years and 4 biological children, when our youngest child was only 3 months old we knew without a doubt what the Lord was telling us; that the seed he planted in our hearts all those years prior that the time to adopt was NOW. So when our youngest was only 7 months old, we filled out our adoption application on June 26th, 2018 even though many thought we were crazy. While we had originally begun our adoption journey through South Korea, God clearly closed that door and brought us to Colombia. Colombia is right next to Ecuador and it finally makes sense. We had our finalized homestudy on June 20th, 2019 and on August 7th we received a possible referral for consideration. On August 8th, 2019, on our 10 year wedding anniversary we prayerfully decided to pursue adding this sweet boy into our family.

We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful new life into our home. As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that our adoption related costs will likely total $42,000. We have spent around $10,500 of our own money already and easily have about $31,500 left. We need to raise $7,150 in the next month in order to send in our dossier. This is why we have set a goal of $20,000 to help bridge the gap in finances. As we received a referral much earlier than anticipated we truly need your help in order to bring this sweet little boy into our family.

We have been awarded a $2,500 matching grant from College Church Adoption Fund, administered by Lifesong for Orphans. As we are hoping to send in our dossier by the end of September we are asking your help in raising the $2,500 matching grant by September 30th.

We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he grows up.

We hope that you feel comfortable asking us any questions about our adoption and the ways we have been preparing.
