If you would like to read our full adoption story, we have shared it below!
Years ago, when we were just dating, we would spend hours and hours talking about our future family. Where we would live, how we would spend family vacations, how many children we would have…they were all dreams and ideas we talked about in the corner of a coffee shop. Once we were engaged we often scribbled baby names we loved on corners of napkins, and dreamed of colorful family Christmas cards. Abigail has three siblings who are adopted, so we were able to see the gift that adoption is to a family first hand, and hear the testimony of how God brought each child into their family. Adoption was something we knew that we wanted to be a part of our day, but just a quick google search will leave anyone overwhelmed with the cost and restrictions that fall on adoptive families. Instead of submitting to the thousands of unanswered questions that swirled our brains, and we knew that whatever God had for us would be best!
On a hot southern summer day in June of 2012 we were married. We were blessed to become pregnant with our daughter Karoline just our three months into our marriage. In June of 2013 we welcomed Karoline Eliza into our family. Ever since then we have trusted the Lord with the size of our family. We have longed to see our family grow. Throughout the last several years, we have walked the road of unexplained infertility. We have been left discouraged, sad, frustrated, and have eager for the time when the Lord would open a door for us to grow our family! We have longed for the day we could begin the adoption process, and have been praying that God would make it very clear to us when the timing would be best!
In March of 2019 our family was approached by someone from our church, East White Oak, who shared with us the story and testimony of a young extended family member who was expecting a baby. We were asked if would pray over this situation, and see if the Lord would have our family be considered as an adoptive family for this baby. We were honored and humbled that the needs of this birth mom would be shared with us, and that we would be given the opportunity to pray over how we could help in this situation. We prayed for several days about this situation, and then prepared a written letter for the birth mom.
As we were writing our letter to this birth mom, we felt an overwhelming peace. We certainly had questions and unknowns, but we felt the Lord had been preparing us spiritually and emotionally for this situation. By faith, we began to build a relationship with this sweet birth mom, and have been continuing one day at a time. This birth mom is now 34 weeks pregnant, and has chosen us to adopt her baby boy who is due to arrive in early October. We are thrilled for the opportunity to bring not only this child, but this birth mom into our family’s story!
Our greatest desire is to pray over and cherish this birth mom as she navigates this journey of adoption. We hope she feels cared for, safe, loved and supported no matter what her final decision is for herself and this baby. We admire her so much for choosing life for this baby boy and are so grateful she is placing her baby for adoption.
We have been given the great privilege to walk through much of this pregnancy with this birth mom. She has invited Abigail to many doctors appointments to hear the baby’s heartbeat or watch an ultrasound. Recently she has asked Abigail to begin reading scripture with her, as she desires to renew her relationship with the Lord. We have been able to share with this birth mom our desire to raise our children in a home where they are cherished, loved unconditionally, taught the stories of Jesus, and given every possible resource we can give them to help them grow and flourish into all God has created them to be! Furthermore, we have shared that we are eager to tell our children of the precious gift of adoption, how this birth mom loved her baby boy so greatly, and we pray that our children will always celebrate adoption as a clear picture of the Gospel.
We are abundantly grateful that we have devoted friends and family who support us and love us unconditionally. We have shared our desire to adopt with all our friends and family, and they have each been over joyed and thrilled and have been faithfully praying for us, birth mom and this unborn baby boy. We are so grateful to have their prayer support as well as their love and affection.
We are committed to be praying for this young birth mom and her precious baby boy throughout her pregnancy, delivery, post partum time and adoption placement. We are praying for her health and safety, for an incredible support system, for her to be safe and protected, and that God will fill her with peace and confidence in this decision, and that she will be open to the Gospel and will be drawn to our Savior throughout this whole process.
