Our love story is one of our favorites to tell. Alex and I met in our early twenties, but God had us wait until just the right season. I was teaching 2nd grade in Honduras and came back to speak at our church in Sioux Falls, SD, when Alex’s interest was piqued towards his old friend. The rest went by in a flash and in 2014 we vowed to spend our lives together trusting God’s faithfulness to guide our steps.
From premarital counseling, we both felt a longing and desire towards adoption. It is a legacy of love deeply woven throughout our family. We tried to have a child naturally. Month after month, we were met with confusion and heartache. After an infertility specialist told us that we were running out of options, we knew the time had come to set our hearts, minds, and prayers on adoption.
We have an amazing village of people who love and care for us deeply. They have prayed us through the grief, loss, hope deferred, and hope renewed. We are honored by how people have come around us.
Our son, Zion Alexander, is due to be born February 28. We praise God for his life and his birth mother’s choice to carry this precious one. We have been praying for months, long before we knew him, that his birth mother would choose life. On January 13, she chose us to be Zion’s parents.
Our private adoption will cost around $45,000. After using our savings to fund fertility treatments and initiating the adoption process (i.e. home study, background checks, adoption consultant), we have a long ways to cover the remaining expenses which also include lawyer fees, birth mom expenses, lost wages, travel expenses and so on. We have discussed selling our home, our vehicles, whatever it takes to bring life into this family. Through the encouragement and prayers of dear friends, we are opening our story to even more participation from loved ones, if you so desire and it blesses you to give. We believe life is worth fighting for and we have had prayer warriors encouraging us along each step. We are already overwhelmed at the overflowing of support and love we have received, and now we’ve been blessed by a partnership with First Baptist Church Orlando, who has pledged to match the first $4000 raised through LifeSong.
Thank you for your continuous support and considering helping us to reach this financial need to bring our baby home. It is difficult to express our gratitude, but all the same, thank you for your partnering in our life…our family!
