Van Pelt: Party of Six

Eric & Connie Van Pelt
Eric & Connie Van Pelt Gibbstown, New Jersey

When we got married in June of 2013, we began preparing our life for what we believed marriage was, and for the eventual step of growing our family and having kids. We bought a house, an SUV to fit the family, and dreamed of what our days would be like with children in the home. We had talked about one day the desire to bring a foster child or adopted child into our home. After many complications, and many visits with specialists that Connie was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Shortly following that, Connie needed a hysterectomy and several rounds of chemotherapy. As time passed by, and the healing began, God put it on our hearts to consider adoption. But, it wasn’t just considering adoption, it was for a specific sibling group of 4 children. Throughout this past year, God has moved many mountains and opened many doors for us to be in the position to be able to offer these children their forever home.

2020 coming to an end and a new hope in 2021

December 26, 2020

With the end of 2020 finally coming to the end in a few days we can’t help but look back over the last year and breathe a sigh of relief that we made it. Like many of you, this year didn’t go the way we had hoped or planned. In February we made it public that we were starting the process of adoption. We finally had the letter from my oncologist in hand giving us the confidence to move forward. Amidst  a global pandemic and lots of uncertainty the home study moved forward much slower than we anticipated. It’s still ongoing. Many of you have asked us for updates and there isn’t much else to say except  it’s been a lot of education and a lot of paperwork and a whole lot of waiting. We’ve poured our hearts and souls out in the process and then we wait some more. Many may be reading along nodding knowingly about what we are saying, and some others may be thinking we’re being dramatic. Either way… 10 months later we still can’t say our home study is complete. It’s disappointing. We were hoping we would have our kids home with us by now. We were hoping that after 6 years of trying to grow our family the waiting would be over. The only thing we know for sure is that God is sovereign and He has a clear plan for us, even if we can’t see it. One step forward at a time and we hope that someday this path we’ve been on will make sense. Looking forward to 2021 with a fresh sense of optimism despite the let downs of 2020. Please pray for us. This has been a long hard road and we can’t do it on our own. It has been hard to be so vulnerable and trust that God will answer the desires of our hearts. We are ready to be parents. We are ready to have a home full of chaos and tiny humans. Please pray for our kids. That they will be safe and healthy. We need the strength that only God can provide to stay the course and trust in Him through all of this.
