Hi! We are Nathan and Deena. Here’s a little of our story:
We have both felt for quite a while that God put a call towards adoption in our hearts and that adoption would be part of our story. Deena has been thinking about, praying about and hoping to adopt for as long as she can remember. She has followed Steven Curtis Chapman’s adoption journeys, and has been a Show Hope sponsor for many years. She wanted to help others in their adoption journeys even while waiting for hers to begin. Nathan has been seriously considering & praying about adoption for at least the past five years, ever since meeting a pastor in North Carolina who spoke about picking up odd jobs to help his family raise the money they needed for their adoption.
When we started dating, adoption was one of the topics that came up early in our relationship. We both felt like God had called us to grow our family through adoption. We both knew that we wanted to have a family of both adopted and biological children. We both have a heart for children. Children here in the states and across the world need a stable, loving, Godly home. We believe we are able to provide that kind of home.
We started to try to grow our family shortly after we were married, but God had different plans. Deena had 2 miscarriages, and we are looking forward to meeting our 2 babies in heaven one day. Shortly after the 2nd miscarriage and before we could try to conceive again, Deena was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer. She underwent surgery to remove the original cancerous mole and surrounding area, and it was also found that the cancer had just started to spread one of her lymph nodes. Deena’s scans have been all-clear since then (Praise God!), but the doctors recommended a year of treatments to help guard against any future re-occurrence. These surgeries, treatments and doctor visits all come with expensive medical bills. We have been able to stay on top of them so far, but that has also limited how much we are able to save towards our adoption fund. Receiving a grant to go specifically towards our adoption fund will be so very helpful for our adoption journey!
Because of all the treatments, we were advised to wait at least 2 years before trying to get pregnant again to give Deena’s system time to “re-set.” So, since we have always felt that God wanted us grow our family through adoption, we felt that this mandatory pause before trying again for bio-kids opened the door for us to start our adoption journey.
We also believe that life always deserves a chance, and that life begins at conception. For some, adoption is that chance at life – it is the chance that gives them the best life that they could have. We hope to be able to help meet that need. We can’t wait to share our lives and love with others!
Most of all we’d appreciate your prayers as we navigate this journey! Pray for our future baby. Pray for the expectant mom, and that we will be able to show her the love of Jesus. Pray that the process is as smooth as possible. Pray that we are able to raise just the right amount of funds that we will need. And pray that we are able to share God’s love throughout this whole journey.
