The Thomas Family is Growing!

We are excited to officially announce that the Thomas Family will be growing through adoption! Even
before we began dating, Josh and I both sensed God’s leading to adopt in the future. As you can imagine,
we are thrilled to see that desire come to fruition now! Currently, we are working with our agency to adopt
a child, most likely with special needs, from Hong Kong. Once our home study is complete, we can begin
the “matching process,” and at that point we will know the age and gender of the child, as well as more
background information. Although we do not know a lot about what our family will look like in the near
future, we do know that we are embarking on an incredible journey that will change our lives and our new
child’s life forever.
Besides the joy of having another child in our home, our desire to adopt is driven by the importance of
caring for orphans, the theological richness of which is not lost on us. We rejoice that God has adopted us
as His children through Christ (Ephesians 1:5) and that we get to tangibly display the Gospel through our
family as we bring a child into our home. It is undeniable that the Lord wills for orphans to be cared for
and it is a privilege and a blessing to be part of God’s story in this special way.
Please join us in praying for our adoption. Specifically, please pray that God would prepare our hearts,
and our children's for welcoming another member to our family, that all the financial needs would be met,
and that our child would be well cared for in Hong Kong.
We would also be honored if you would consider being a part of this process by contributing financially. We
have been given an amazing gift of a $7,500 matching grant through the generosity of AIM 5 Adoption
Fund and LifeSong for Orphans, which will offset the cost of adoption considerably. We have agency fees,
government fees, and travel fees that will need to be paid in the future and we hope to fundraise a
significant portion of that. Thank you so much for your prayers and support. We are ever grateful to
have you joining us on this journey.

December 2023 Update

December 15, 2023

Hello everyone, we have some big news to share about our adoption process. It’s been nearly a year now since we announced our adoption from Hong Kong and a lot has happened that we are finally able to share. We ended up in the matching process for Hong Kong at the end of February, which was so very exciting. As we walked through the process, filling out more paperwork and getting everything in order, we found out that we were currently ineligible to match in Hong Kong. This felt like a major blow; however, God used it in such a big way. We took several months to pray and to grieve over our desire to adopt internationally, and during that time, God opened a door for us to begin the domestic adoption process, which we were officially accepted into last month.

We are very excited about the opportunity to adopt domestically. A unique element of that includes our agency’s heart to minister to birth families, which is a major component of their domestic program. Instead of closed adoptions, their domestic program is open, such that we and our adopted child will have the chance for a continued relationship with birth parents after the adoption is finalized. We have been honored to support families through crisis pregnancy centers for many years, so this struck us an amazing opportunity and an extension of our heart to support families in an unexpected pregnancy. And although the circumstances are different, and many of the emotions will be different too, we do know the grief of leaving a hospital without our baby. We pray that our suffering over the passing of our son William will help us to minister all the better to a family who is entrusting us with the care of their child.

Our next steps are to complete our home study and the education, which is projected to be done in the next couple of months. We will then be eligible to match and will also take time to fundraise and apply for grants.

We have felt so much support from people reaching out and asking about the process, as well as praying for us, and donating to our matching grant. Please continue to pray that we would follow God’s lead and that He would grow our family through adoption.
