The VanHorn Family

Jennifer VanHorn
Jennifer VanHorn Peyton, Colorado

Thank you for choosing to come along side us and be a part of the adventure God has called us to. Most of you know that our family is growing through adopting from the Philippines.  Although adoption has always been something our family has talked about and thought about, we waited silently and patiently for God to align all our hearts. After years of prayer, God led us to begin our adoption journey in October of 2016. The past 6 months have been crazy. We have had to rely on so many wonderful people, family, friends and our whole community, to be able to get to where we are at now. The doctor visits, fingerprint appointments, homestudy visits, 43 hours of education and training, psychological evaluations, bank statements, job statements, photos, reference letters, interviews, questionnaires, countless approvals and testing have truly tested our trust in God’s calling to adoption and has stretched us beyond our comfort to rely on our heavenly father and so many people in our town, city and nation.  We know it takes a village to raise children, and now we know it takes an even bigger village to bring an orphan home. All the paperwork is now complete and has been sent over to the Philippines to be presented to their adoption board. We are essentially in the ‘waiting’ phase… waiting to be matched with our son or daughter, waiting for our adventure to continue and trusting in God’s faithfulness!  We don’t feel like our story is unique or extraordinary but we know God’s story is. We find ourselves as just an ordinary family being obedient to what God is calling us to in this time of our lives. We know that the fatherless are a strong target for the evil one and we know our family has only experienced the beginning of the battle. Our adventure will continue to consist of highs and lows, joys, sorrows, pain, battles and ultimately triumph.

Please join us on the adventure God has planned for us.

As most of you know, we choose not share details on social media, however, we will keep you updated with specific prayers and needs as well as updates, timelines and details of our adventure on our story page with Lifesong for Orphans ministries.  In our walk of faith, please be praying that God will be our child’s comforter, caregiver, protector and father. Please be praying that God continues to prepare our family for our child!

We know that what we are being called to is much bigger than our family. God has been working in our hearts and lead us to adoption and has began His work in the hearts of the body of Christ to give financial support. To be completely honest, we don’t know how we feel about raising support. When we committed to adoption, we joyfully committed to taking on the financial challenges that we would face to bring an orphan home. If God is leading you to give, please give with a joyful heart, but if He is not, please don’t feel the pressure of having to conform to something you are not led to do. We are humbled and honored that our church family at Woodmen Valley chapel partnered with Lifesong for Orphans and committed an Adoption Matching Grant of $2,000 to help pay for our adoption expenses. If you are led to do so, you can make a tax-deductable donation to help us meet this matching grant. As the body of Christ, there are lots of roles that we can play when it comes to adoption. No matter what stage of life you are in, we want you to be a part of this adoption. This is going to be a long journey and we would love for you to remember us often and pray for our family.

STRIPE charges an online processing fee (2.2% +.30 USD per transaction). Your donations will be decreased by this amount. You may also send a check payable to “Lifesong for Orphans”. One Year!

October 4, 2017

We have officially been on this journey of adoption for ONE year! We can’t believe how fast is has gone by. There were periods of ups and downs…feeling impatient and unsure but we all feel that we are settled into a really good place of patience and obedience to what God is calling us to! We found out today (10.04.2017) from our adoption agency that on September 20, 2017, the Philippines adoption board (ICAB) officially reviewed and approved our application and our family is on the Roster for Approved Applicants! This means that we can be matched with our little one at any time…but we are pretty sure being matched will take another year or two. Thank you to everyone who is praying with and for us, thank you to everyone who has financially supported us and thank you for taking the time to be a part of our adventure! This is a beautiful journey and we are blessed.

Our Timeline!

June 7, 2017

We are thankful that life is very busy with three little boys because it makes this wait a little easier! We pray for our son/daughter everyday and the Philippines! We have now been waiting for our little one for a little over 8 months…I can’t believe we started that long ago! The boys’ excitement grows every day for their little brother/sister. It is so fun to hear how they are processing it all and the silly things they say. They can’t wait! We received a follow-up document from ICAB (the Philippines adoption board) last week. It was a legal document that they wanted us to fill out and get notorized and send it back. Our adpotion agency sent it yesterday! We know this will be a long road ahead and a potential wait of 3 months to 3 years before we are matched. The Philippines has been a popular area of attack from ISIS lately because they have the biggest Christian population of all Asian countries. Please be praying for God’s protection and guidence in our little one’s country. Thank you again for following our journey and choosing to come along side of us through prayer!
