We have been planning and praying about adoption for a long time! We both had hearts that were open to adoption even before we were married. It was a topic that would come up, but we didn’t spend much time planning at first. God used an Orphan Sunday at our church to start the conversation about what our role would be in taking care of orphans. We prayerfully considered several options, but our hearts kept being drawn back to adoption. After coming to the conclusion that God has called us to adopt, we once again began to consider and pray about what kind of adoption we should pursue. During this time we also desired to have a biological child, if God would allow us, and we were blessed with our son Clayton (3). After having him, we continued to talk and pray about what our steps would be to adopt a child. God blessed us by surrounding us with several friends who have adopted, fostered, and worked in the area of social services. After many conversations with them (and each other) and much prayer, we have decided to pursue domestic adoption. We are so excited to see how the Lord will work, and how he will grow our family this way! It is so clear looking back how He has prepared us separately and together to adopt. We know from many who have gone before us that there will be unexpected twists and turns, but we know this is what God wants for our family. He knows our path, and He will provide all the strength, wisdom, and resources we need.
