The Joy of Adoption

Ben and Lindsey Adkins
Ben and Lindsey Adkins Troup, Texas

Since before we were married Ben and Lindsey both knew they wanted to adopt one day. After having traveled extensively worldwide and seeing the need of orphans around the globe, we knew that the Lord was calling our family to grow through adoption. Four years into our adventurous marriage we decided we wanted children. However, having biological children first seemed not to be the Lord’s plan for our family.

After suffering 2 miscarriages within a year we started asking God if maybe this was our time to adopt instead. With great confidence we felt the Lord saying “Yes!”. We are adopting from China with Lifeline Children’s Services! We are excited about the little boy the Father has planned to join our family. With every step, God has walked with us and we know He will continue to provide. We are confident He will supply the last $20,000 needed to complete our adoption.

We are so thankful to have Lifesong for Orphans on our team! They have offered us a matching grant of $2,500!! This means that for every dollar donated, up to $2,500, they will match it! That’s a total of $5,000 towards our adoption! Gifts over and above this amount still help towards our adoption. All gifts are tax-deductable through Lifesong. Can you help us bring home our Son?

*For legal confidentiality purposes we can not share his picture or real name. Hungary’s confidentiality is very strict and we are trying hard to follow their rules. Thank you for understanding!

Moving Forward!

March 17, 2018

PTL! We got our Log-in Date this week! This was a big step to help us move forward. Finally we have confirmation that our match has been pre-approved and our paperwork fully submitted! We have been given permission to share his picture with friends and family as well. We are currently at the stage in our adoption where we are waiting for China to send us our final letter of acceptance. This stage may take 2 to 3 months. After we receive our letter of acceptance things begin moving rather quickly as we file for our son’s immigration visa paperwork as well as a few other consulate appointments, etc. This secondary stage should take about 6 weeks. At the end of that time we will receive our travel notification – letting us know the dates we can go pick up our son! Our “Gotcha Day” should occur roughly 2 weeks after we get our travel notification. We are estimating this time to be mid-July up to mid-August!

We are thrilled to finally feel like we are making real progress in our adoption. We are beginning to prepare our home for Paxton to arrive. We’ve got his room all ready with a little bed, toys, and even a night light! Its so fun preparing our home for a child. Other things we are thinking about getting are children’s vitamins, medicine, clothing, and making a few sensory toys. We’ve found a lot of good pintest links for fun toddler games and activities. Funny as it may be, I can’t wait to make a mess playing with cooked and dyed speghetti noodles, a rice bin full of GI Joes, and of course PlayDough! We get to put our training to the test as soon as we pick up our bundle of Joy. If you are thinking about adoption for yourself, we would highlly recommend reading the book The Connected Child by Karyn Purvis. Its an excellent resource for preparing your hearts and home for your adopted child.

In roughly 4 months our little Love will come barreling into our lives! Thank you for being part of our adoption Journey and our lives! We feel honored to have you walk alongside us in all of this.

Meet our Son!

February 27, 2018

Truly it is time to Celebrate!!! We are honored to announce the arrival of our son, Paxton Levi! We accepted his referral in mid-January then got our Pre-Approval from China in mid-February! He is officially ours! We waited to tell everyone until now because we were honestly a bit fearful from our past failed adoption in Hungary. We still have what feels like a long way to go in this adoption process but we are on the right track.

Let me tell you a little about our son! His Chinese name means “Healthy, Peace”. So we have chosen the name Paxton, meaning “Peace”, and Levi, meaning “joined or attached”. We love the meaning of both his Chinese and English names. We feel they are very appropriate for his life and him joining our family! Paxton is now 20 months old, and by the time we get to actually pick him up we are guessing he will already have turned 2 years! We’ve been told he can walk, bounce a ball, eat with a spoon, smile, laugh, and snuggle. We can’t wait to bring him into his Forever Home this summer.

We feel like God has brought us such a long way in this adoption journey and has chosen Paxton to be our son. Many of you who have followed our journey through the past 2+ years know that we have loved, lost, and fought for our child. We have had many ups and downs in the adoption process but know God has been walking through the fire right alongside us, comforting and guiding with each step we take. With many of you praying with us for these two years, we are confident that this particular child is God’s answer to all of our prayers. We are thrilled to be bringing him into such a loving extended family (including YOU)!

Our dossier is in the process of being translated and logged-in to the China adoption database, which will hopefully be complete by March 5th. Then we will be able to file more US immigration forms to be able to bring our son home, and also wait for our travel notice to come in. This travel notice will tell us the exact dates we can go meet and pick up our son. We’ve been told by Lifeline Children’s Services, our adoption agency, that we can expect to be traveling sometime between June and August 2018… just a few months away! In the mean time we are still very “paper-pregnant” with many more forms to submit before we can pick him up. Continue to pray for us as we prepare our hearts and home to welcome Paxton in.

Thank you for your many financial gifts and thousands of prayers you have prayed for us and our son. YOU mean the world to us! Thank you for supporting us emotionally through all the ups and downs. We can’t tell you enough how much you have helped.

Preparing to submit our China Dossier!

October 3, 2017

Hello Adoption Friends!

We have really enjoyed seeing so many of you while we’ve been in the States the last few months. Thank you to so many of you who have donated to help us fund our adoption! We are moving the right direction as we wait for our USCIS (US Immigration office) to mail us our approval form to adopt a child from China. Once we get this form in the mail, then we can finally submit our full dossier (about 13 big documents) to the China Central Agency for Adoption. We are hoping to have this done some time in November 2017. When the China Agency gets our dossier they need a few weeks to log in our information into their central database before we can begin looking for a child to be matched with from their shared central listings. We are praying that we will get our “log in” done before Christmas! Right now it kinda feels like house hunting instead of pregnancy, with all the paperwork, waiting, approvals, and submissions. In the end its totally worth it as we know God will provide us with our beautiful chinese son!

Please continue to pray for our son and our paperwork as it is being prepared to enter the hands of the Chinese Central Adoption Agency. We love you all so much! Thank you for walking through this journey with us!

Adopting from China

September 16, 2017

What a whirlwind journey this has been for us! Over the summer Lifeline Children’s Services told us the Poland Adoption Program has not started back up and is continuing to restructure. They are not sure when we might be able to adopt a child from Poland and suggested changing country programs once again.

After much prayer we decided to change one last time to the China Adoption Program. We are very excited to see how the Father will be teaching us during this time as we wait, once again, for our forever family to arrive!

Since we have changed country programs again we are spending above what we originally estimated for our adoption costs. We know the Father will provide every dollar we need to bring our Son home this next year. Can you help us by giving generously to our adoption fund with Lifesong for Orphans? Can you help us cover the extra $5000 that our two country changes have added up to?

We so love and appreciate every one of you who has given to our family. We can’t wait to meet our son and introduce him to the best people we know – YOU!

Rapidly Changing Poland Adoptions

February 17, 2017

Hello Friends and Family,

We are unsure how many of you have heard about the crazy restructuring of the Poland Adoption Agencies that began in January 2017. Here’s the brief summary of what happened…

On January 20th we were notified by Lifeline Children’s Services, our adoptoin agency in the US, that Poland has just issued a directive to close two out of the three in-country adoption agencies that help match the children in Poland to families outside of Poland. This was a quick move by the local govenment and has shocked everyone. What this means is that originally Poland had three agencies working to match Polish children with foreign families, but now there is only one entity doing the job of these three agencies. They are very overwhelmed and trying to figure out how to handle the new load of children and families they recieved from the original two agencies that were just shut down. This new entity is not taking meetings with most, if not all, American Adoption agencies right now, so they can not set up a new contract with this group. For us, this means more waiting. Since a new contract has not been established with Lifeline and the Poland adoption agency they can not continue matching families with Polish children. Everyone is on hold. Even families who were in-country at the time of the restructuring for their bonding time with their newly adopted child are still in-country. The courts are even put on hold, which means the families finalizing their adoption right now have to wait in-country for weeks, if not months, longer. Its a crazy situation. Please be in prayer for our adoption process, for Poland as they restructure, for a meeting to take place between Lifeline and the new Polish agency, and for the families stuck in Poland right now. Pray for our child, who is also waiting on his/her family. Pray for our patience and joy in the process.

We love you all! Thank you for your support during this time.

Changing to Poland

January 6, 2017

Hello Friends and Family,

We wanted to give you a brief update! We’ve raised a ton of support towards our adoption but are still about $10,000 shy of paying for it in full!

Also, since the fall (2016) we have changed countries of adoption from Hungary to Poland. As most of your know, we were matched with a child from Hungary in August 2016 but 5 weeks later we were denied the chance to adopt him. Without going into details here, it was a heartbreak experience. Since this time we have decided that changing countries would be our best option for a successful adoption. We are praying it goes smoothly this time!

We are hoping and praying by the end of January 2017 we will be matched with our future child(ren)! We’ve been approved in our Home Study to adopt either a boy or a girl, single child or sibling set! Its very exciting and we can’t wait to see what God does in our family! Pray with us to bring our child(ren) home by this summer! Pray also for the remainder of the funds to come in to pay for our adoption in full, wheather from adoption grants or gifts from friends and family!

Blessings,

The Adkins
