The Garwoods are ADOPTING!

Daniel Garwood Martinsburg, Pennsylvania

Thank you for taking the time to view our story.  We are Daniel and Julie Garwood, and we are in the process of adopting a child from China.  As elementary school teachers, we have a big heart for children!  We believe that God has called us to be parents, a mother and father to a child in need of a family.

When we got married in June of 2012, we thought we would start having children right away just like the other couples around us.  But we had difficulty; after trying for many months, it wasn’t happening for us, so we planned to start fertility treatments.   Then, just before the process was set to begin, after 2 1/2 years of trying, we became pregnant on our own with our first child.  Our hearts soared! Our families celebrated! Filled with excitement, in December of 2015, we went for an ultrasound, so anxious to see our baby’s heart beating for the the first time.  We were not prepared for the devastating news that blindsided us: there was no heartbeat.  Our baby was not going to live. We miscarried right after Christmas.  We were crushed.

This was not our only tragedy. We have experienced the joys of pregnancy and endured the misery of miscarriage twice more since.  After losing our last baby, in the midst of our sorrow, we considered our next steps, looking to God for guidance.  Through the people in whom we were confiding and through other signs He was giving us, He laid it on our hearts to adopt.  We serve an awesome God, who, in all things, works for the good of those who love him. We are so excited! We believe that this is His plan for our lives, and for the life of the little one who will be joining our family.

And she will not only be joining our immediate family, but our church and community families as well.  You will serve an instrumental role for our child while she is growing up, and there are a couple ways you can be involved immediately. First, your prayer support is of paramount importance, because as excited as we are about this journey, it is a long, arduous process filled with frustration and uncertainty.  And while we don’t yet know the identity of our child, please pray for her well-being. Also, it is humbling to have to ask for financial help, but the cost of our adoption will be nearly $40,000, and we need to ask for your support.  If you feel led to help financially, please follow the instructions below. Thank you in advance for whatever help you are willing to give.  We can’t wait to bring our child home and introduce her to the many friends in our church and community who helped make it possible for her to be here with us, all for the glory of God.
