Two months ago, we never would have envisioned ourselves writing a letter like this; it is noth a burden and at the same time, an incredible joy to share what the Lord is doing.
We have always felt the call to adopt. It is something we talked about before we were married, before we were blessed with 3 boys in 3.5 years and before we had 2 teenage boys live with us 2 years in a row. After spending the summer as just our family of 5, this fall, we began to feel that stir of adoption in our hearts again. We spent the fall and early winter in prayer and conversation and more prayer. Mid January, we knew that praying was leading us to action.....we just had no idea what the Lord had in store.
January 22nd- Katie texted a friend (full of knowledge and experience regarding adoptions) to ask some very general questions about different adoption options and processes.
February 3rd (morning) That friend sent a follow up text, to see if we had moved forward at all--we hadn't yet:)
February 3rd (afternoon) We talked to really make sure we were both on the same page and far as adopting and details that may come with that--we were:)
February 3rd (evening) We received a phone call from that same friend that she had been connecting over the past few months with another woman who had been walking with a refugee woman (we can call her "A") who was scared, pregnant, very alone and seeking a family to adopt her unborn baby....were we willing?! YES! (not knowing at all what we were totally saying "yes" to but completely trusting the Lord to direct our steps)
the night we met "A"
**It is impossible to put into words what this meeting was like. She loves the Lord. She is kind and quiet and beautiful while at the same time, full of fear and stark loneliness. Her burden is so heavy and the enormityof her situation and the decision she has made does not weigh lightly on us.
This part of our adoption is heavy and full of sorrow and also beautiful and incredibly humbling. We talked, cried and prayed together with a promise to do so in the coming weeks.
February 20th we received this text:
"Praise God for being with 'A'! Please let the family know that she wants them to be with her on this journey starting tomorrow at her doctor's appointment."
SO....we will be adding a daughter/sister to our family...in less than FIVE weeks!!!!
(I SO wish I Was sitting across from you drinking coffee and sharing this story! And if we had more then 5 weeks, I would do that with eac hof you! -Katie)
We wanted to share this with as many of you as possible because:
1. No matter what happens, this is God's story and He has chosen to use us in some part of it and He deserves ALL THE GLORY!
2. We consider you part of our village and our God story and we could not wait to let you join us!
*For "A," we cannot stop thinking about her. What will be one of the most beautiful days of our lives will be one of the most devestating in hers.
*Please pray for our boys during this process
*Please pray that we will have confidence in the Lord and that He will continue to direct our steps.
With such little time to have prepared to get through the home study/attorneys fees and other costs associated with private adoption, we will be doing this as our only fundraiser. We have received a matching grant from Lifesong.
(if you give, they will match it) So if you feel like you can be part of our story in this way, you can give here.
