Our journey to adoption has been a rough but blessed one. After a miscarriage early on, we pursued several medical avenues for infertility for 6 years but were left with no answers. Many asked if we’d consider adopting and it simply seemed like second best, a back up plan. It never sat well with us to bring a child into our family on purpose with those feelings in our hearts. What if God didn’t intend us to be parents? After all, He could have fixed the medical issues in an instant. We sat for 2 years having reached the end of our road medically.
In early 2013, The Lord audibly spoke to our hearts via James 1:27 (now our family verse) which states that we are to protect and take care of the orphans and widows; we knew He’d said that we were to adopt and that had been His plan for us all along! We tackled our necessary research and prayerfully decided to adopt from South Korea.
We were matched with our son, Gideon in the Fall of 2013 and brought him home after a grueling 22.5 months at age 3. So many times during the wait it felt like we had chosen the wrong path and God was saying ‘no.’ God had placed the number 4 on our hearts and we would reassess the international options again for future children after the struggles and delays of round 1; our hearts were placed on S Korea every time. Thankfully the Lord made our family’s call to adoption so clear from the beginning! We quickly went back in the process for our 2nd son, Caleb, anticipating a long road again. We were surprised with him coming home after a 16 month wait in April of 2017. Girls are hard to come by unless a family is willing to wait a while; in the Fall of 2017, we started the process for our 3rd son and were shocked to be matched with a girl. Eliana came home just 8 months later in May of 2018! We’re now blessed to be waiting for another girl. Our life’s purpose is to be a family to those who don’t have one; this is our family’s calling. this is our family’s calling.
