"Adoption is the highest privilege the gospel offers." JI Packer
The Lord placed adoption on our hearts at a young age. Before we were married we were confident adoption would be a part of our story. In January 2013 we were called to begin the international adoption process during the PASSION Conference in Atlanta, GA. The Lord had been stirring in our hearts a deeper love for the nations and for taking care of the orphans. When we returned home, we began our journey of adoption.
As we began to pray about which country to adopt from the Lord kept drawing us back to Ethiopia. It has been a long season of waiting, praying, and trusting in God's faithfulness and perfect timing. On October 26, 2016 we received the phone call we had been waiting for since we began. We had been matched with our son, Mikiyas, a precious 2 year old! His name means "Yahweh is my God" and we believe and trust in Yahweh to do immeasurably more in every step of our journey. In Jeremiah 32:17 we read, “It is you who have made the heaves and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you!” He is able to bring Mikiyas home to us at just the right time.
We received our MOWA approval in August and our awaiting our court date to travel. Over the past few weeks, we received some very unexpected news. Our agency closed down due to financial reasons. We are in the process of transferring to a new agency, but will need an additional $10-12,000 we had not planned on. We know our God will faithfully provide and is not surprised when we are.
Taking care of the orphans and defending the fatherless is God’s command to all believers. There are countless ways to love orphans. We pray you will be know more of the depth, width, length, and height of His great love as you seek to obey His commands. The adoption journey hasn’t been easy, but it has given us eyes to see a deeper love of Jesus, His joy in bringing beauty from ashes, and the sacrifice He made for us to be in relationship with Him eternally.
He called us and we know He will provide for us. John Piper has said, "adoption is the visible gospel." It is our hope as we have walked through this journey and will continue to walk through this journey that the gospel of Jesus Christ will be put on display through our family. We praise God for you and your desire to partner with us in the gospel in bringing Mikiyas home! He who began a good work will bring it to completion. We will continue to commit our way, trust Him, and know that He will act in faithfulness for our good and His glory!
Yahweh is our God,
