Stowers Adoption

Charissa Stowers Austin, Texas

We have felt called to adoption since before we were married, and we are thrilled to take the steps toward bringing a little one into our lives.

We are so honored to have received a matching grant from The Fellowship 1:17 fund (from The Fellowship in Katy, TX) for $3,000. Any donations up to $3,000 will be matched here, which helps cover any extra expenses associated with finalization and travel while we wait to bring baby home. We’re very thankful to The Fellowship, which is where Robert’s parents attended church in Katy. They have a fantastic adoption ministry, and we’re excited to have them as partners in bringing our child home!

FAQ:

Where are you adopting from?

We’re adopting domestically, so our little buddy will be born somewhere in the USA

Why are you adopting?

We have always known we would expand our family through adoption. We believe that God calls us to care for orphans, and after a little (Nash-shaped) happy detour, we are excited to be so close to bringing another child into our family.

Why does it cost so much?

The costs we know we’ll encounter with adoption include our home study, agency fees, and legal fees. Our estimated costs currently stand around $40,000.

I can’t give any money…what else can I do?

I’m so glad you asked! We would love your prayers, phone calls/texts to check in on us during what we anticipate will be a crazy ride.

What will my money be used for?

There’s quite a few costs associated with adoption. We have funded the majority of our adoption costs already thanks to savings, grants, and some very generous friends and family who contributed to fundraisers. However, there’s still a list of other small sundry things to fund: legal fees, social services, finalization costs, a place to stay for the 2-4 weeks it will take us to finalize the adoption. Everything you donate goes straight to these additional costs.

STRIPE charges an online processing fee (2.2% +.30 USD per transaction). Your donations will be decreased by this amount. You may also send a check payable to “Lifesong for Orphans”. In the memo line please write “Stowers 6005”, to ensure it is credited to our account. Please mail to Lifesong for Orphans, PO Box 40, Gridley, IL 61744.

Lifesong has been blessed with partners who underwrite all U.S. administrative and fundraising costs (TMG Foundation and other partners). That means 100% of your donation will go directly to the adoption.

  • In following IRS guidelines, your donation is to Lifesong for Orphans. This organization retains full discretion over its use, but intends to honor the donor’s suggested use.
  • Lifesong is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. Individual donations of $50 or more and yearly donations totaling $250 or more will receive a tax-deductible receipt. Receipts for donations under $50 will gladly be sent upon request.

Catching up

November 15, 2019

Hi!

It’s been a while since we’ve updated here, but we’re baaaaaaack!

We’ve finished our home study over the summer, finished our profile book and our “meet us” video. And now, we’re waiting and in January we’ll be ready to be matched with our future kiddo.

Thank you so much to those of you who have supported us by contributing to our fundraisers, praying for us, and asking how the adoption process was coming along.

So, here we are! We have received a matching grant from The Fellowship that will match up to $3,000. We are incredibly thankful to have saved for the rest of our expected expenses, but anything additional contributed will still be so helpful.

Our adoption agency averages a 9-10 month wait, so we’re hopeful that our baby will be joining us sometime in 2020. Nash is already talking about when he will meet baby brother or sister (though we don’t think he knows what he’s in for).

Thank you for following along with us and being on our team.

Little Big Update

October 23, 2016

We have an update…a little big update.

You maybe have wondered why we had been a little quiet on the adoption front the past few months – and it’s because we’ve had a delay in the process.

We’re not too upset about this delay since it’s because I’m pregnant, and, Lord willing, our little boy will be born at the end of February. (And yep, that’s in like 4 months…eek!).

While we thought that we might have a biological kid at some point, we were set on pursuing adoption first. Even though our plans have flip flopped now, we’re still just as committed to adoption. Our agency’s policy is that our profile (which includes all our payments and distributed grants) must be put on pause until this baby is a year old (and, let’s be real, it’s probably good for our sanity to space the babies out a little). At that point, we can re-activate our profile, and proceed with our adoption! (And, in case you’re curious, we have about $2,000 more available in matching funds from Lifesong and The Fellowship – once we hit that number, we should be fully funded!!!!) We are so grateful for all your support we’ve received in this process. If you know me, you know I hate asking for anything from anyone…this has been such a humbling place for us, and we are thankful.

One other thing I think is really important to talk about: October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. We experienced an early miscarriage last winter, and joined a club that we didn’t want to join. It was a hard season for us. For those of you who might be reading this update and feeling an ache because you have lost a child or had an adoption disruption or are struggling to have a child or are tired of justifying that you don’t want kids or any other difficult place…know that our hearts are with you in your pain.

Thank you all for your prayers and love as we build our family. We are grateful to God for this gift, and we can’t wait to introduce you to our baby boy in February!
