We met in December 2010, working as baristas at a local coffee shop in Birmingham. We quickly started dating and were married in January of 2012. Prior to meeting, we both attended Auburn University (at the same time), had each lived and worked overseas for a short time. Adam lived and worked in Costa Rica with a mission agency in 2010, and Meredith was in Thailand working with a mission agency in 2009-2010.
The Lord had stirred our hearts toward adoption before we met each other. We have both seen the need orphans have in various contexts in the world. We are compelled by Jesus’ gospel and see the undeniable parallels of adoption and the gospel. However, we are also drawn to adoption by need, not just desire.
Adam has Cystic Fibrosis (CF), and as a result is also a double lung transplant recipient, recently celebrating his 17th transplant anniversary. One of the many impacts of CF is a high rate of male infertility. This is true of Adam as well. We knew this would affect us, so adoption was something we knew we wanted to pursue from the earliest days of our relationship.
After many years, many prayers, tears, and conversations we are following the Lord’s leading to adopt a child from Hungary. We are excited to see our family grow! We are excited to see the Lord use the Gospel parallels of adoption to be a light and an influence in our hearts, the heart of our child and to those around us who we will share our lives with.
We are humbled to ask friends and family to journey with us over the next months as we seek to fund this endeavor! We are even more excited as all our partners get to journey with after we bring our child home!
