Our Story

Hi! We are the Simpson Family. We live here in Holland Michigan with our four children: Alex (19), Maddy (16), Emma (15), and Owen (7). We have been members at Calvary Baptist Church since 2009. You may be wondering what this is all about. We would like to get to know you and share with you what God has stirred up for us.

Let us begin. Jeff and I began our families in the most untraditional way. Jeff had two children (Maddy age 3 & Alex 7) and I had one child (Emma age 2) when we met. Thanks to eharmony we joined in marriage in February of 2006. I like to call us, “Beautifully Blended.” We began our new life together balancing the ups and downs, chaos and challenges of what a blended family entails. In October of 2009 Owen, our youngest, was born. Perfect you might say! Two girls, two boys, similar to the 2005 movie: Yours, Mine & Ours.  We thought our family was complete, but God had other plans for us.

I was working in child welfare (CPS), and Jeff working in real estate. I would come home each day telling Jeff about situations of horrific abuse and neglect children here in our area are experiencing. God was working through me to remove them from those situations, and to find new loving homes with loving families for these sweet children. It was not long after that Jeff and I heard and felt the calling to adopt. God spoke powerfully to us, preparing our hearts to begin to put his plan into action. In February of this year we began the process of adoption from China. Our son, Charlie, currently lives in the providence of Hangzhou City. Charlie is two years old. He is part of the Chinese government’s “Special Focus” program which seeks to find families for kids who are older, or have a more serious medical condition. Charlie is diagnosed with delayed motional development of both lower limbs. He has had some rehabilitation while living with his foster parents, The orphanage believes at this point that Charlie will continue to make good progress to eventually be able to stand and walk alone.

This is quite a journey. We are experiencing about every emotion you can think of. You might be wondering where you fit in or how you can help. We are in desperate need of a few things as we descend on his process: (1) we are not able to do this alone. Our church family has been instrumental in our lives thus far through support, friendship, and prayer. We ask you to remain by our side and continue to support us through prayer for Charlie, and our family. (2) Adoption is expensive. We would never have chosen this kind of cost for our family if we didn’t believe that God is in control, and we need to trust in his plan. We graciously ask for any financial gift amount. Your contribution will be used to aid the following expenses; U.S. Immigration fees, WACAP Agency fees, In-Country legal expenses, Dossier processing fees, and travel expenses. (3) We would ask for your support. Would you be that person that we could call on to walk us back from the ledge, or a family that would be willing to provide us God’s truth when the enemy is at our door.

We are leaning on this verse. Isaiah 43:2&5

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers they will not sweep over you... Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west.”

This is our story. We would love for you to be a part of our adoption story. We hope to share Charlie with you in the Spring of 2017.

With love,

The Simpson Family,

Jeff, Nichole, Alex, Maddy, Emma & Owen
