Adoption is something that has been on both our hearts for a long time. Even before we met. And after spending about a year and a half in the process, we received word that we’ve been matched with twin boys from Colombia!
We are Ian and Meg Sikes. We have been married for 8 years and have one biological son, Oaken, who is 3. We’ve both felt the Lord leading us toward adoption for several years and after being blessed with the birth of Oaken we wanted to open our home to one or two more. We first started the process in December of 2019 and trudged our way through the home-study and dossier for over year constantly reminding each other that the grind would be worth it in the end.
We are originally from Southern Illinois, just outside of St. Louis. We are currently living in North Carolina as Ian is serving in the Army and stationed at Fort Bragg. Meg is going on 10 years as a campus minister with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. She is currently leading a chapter at UNC- Pembroke. Oaken attends daycare part-time and is a big fan of Buzz Lightyear.
Over the last couple years, we’ve had a few delays and some documents took us longer to do than they should have. We expected to submit our final dossier to Colombia in December of 2020. However, with Ian overseas, it took us until March to finally get it completed and sent off.
Shortly before Ian returned home and a few weeks after submitting our dossier, we were notified that Colombia approved us for adoption and we were matched with twin boys. We were preparing our hearts to wait for several months, or even a couple years, before receiving word that we were matched. We couldn’t believe that it happened so quickly. We have been working frantically the last two months to prepare our home and finish the paperwork. We still have some work to do, but we will be traveling to finalize the adoption and meet our boys sometime very soon! We can’t help but feel the Lord’s hand in this process and are so excited to bring them home.
The boys will be two years old in September. Unfortunately, we can’t share their names or any photos until we finalize the adoption.
With all that being said, we do need some support from our friends and family. We still have a lot to do and would love if you come alongside us in a few different ways. We thought we would have several more months to practice our Spanish, fundraise, and prepare our home (and probably a lot of other stuff we are forgetting). We’d appreciate any amount of financial support you can provide. We are applying for more matching grants and still have some money in our adoption account, but we still need expect to need another 15,000-20,000 dollars to cover the remaining fees and travel costs. Also, please join us in prayer. We are excited and overjoyed, but we also know adoption can be really hard. Please pray that we can integrate as family and the boys feel loved and safe in a new home.
Thank you to all who have been praying with us and given to support us. We appreciate you all!
