Shawver Family Adoption Journey

Jeremiah Shawver
Jeremiah Shawver Visalia, California

For several years our family has felt God calling us to adopt. We have been involved in the world of foster care for several years in addition to being invested in youth and children’s ministries, and we have a passion for children from hard backgrounds. Near the beginning of the pandemic, we were praying about what God held next for us and what we could do when the world was hurting so much, and God drew our hearts to international adoption.

After reviewing several different countries’ adoption programs, we felt drawn to India. We began the process in April and have now completed our home study and are waiting on India approval. We are so excited to bring home another son or daughter, and Ivy, Henry, and Monroe can’t wait to meet their new sibling! Ivy asks us nearly every day if we’re going to India yet to bring home her brother or sister, and Henry tells us that he would like another sibling and does not care if it’s a boy or girl. We are amazed at how open their hearts are to our family growing through adoption.

After we receive approval from India, we expect to be matched with a child within about 6 months. We are not sure yet if it will be a boy or a girl, and while we know our newest child will be younger than Henry, we don’t even know if we are preparing for a baby or toddler! We ask that you, as our community, be praying that God will prepare us to parent our sweet child, that he will give Ivy, Henry, and Monroe patience and empathy for their new sibling, and that He will provide our child comfort as they wait for their family.

We have been awarded a $6,000 matching grant from Lifesong for Orphans. This means, up to $6,000 all donations will be doubled. The amazing part of this is that once our matching grant is fulfilled, we will have all the money we expect to need for agency fees, immigration fees, travel expenses, and post-adoption requirements. Thank you for considering being a part of our community by helping bring our child home!
