Secrest Domestic Adoption Journey

Amanda SECREST
Amanda SECREST Wingate, North Carolina

We first met in 7th grade Math when Jeremy changed schools. We went to Senior Prom together as a fluke and we got married at 21. When we started trying to have a family, like many other couples, we struggled with infertility for 12 long years. In December 2016, we found out we were pregnant only to discover it was an Ectopic pregnancy that caused some pretty severe health complications for Amanda.

Throughout those years, we had talked about adoption. Adoption had never been something we were exposed to so it just kept going to the back of our minds because of the thousands of unknowns. Fast forward to the pandemic, one day Jeremy says “We’re supposed to have kids.” The short conversation was that God has blessed us with everything we need to provide a supportive loving home for children so he must have a child in mind that we are supposed to welcome into our home through adoption.

We got on the waiting list with the agency we chose; surprisingly I had seen their sign years before in the complex where I was getting fertility massages. A year later on Amanda’s birthday, we received the email invite to attend an information session. After that everything started moving at lightning speed, we submitted our first application to see if we were good candidates for adoption.  Second part of the application was submitted by Christmas 2021. Home study completed in March 2022. Then we became an official waiting family. Adoption is truly a hurry up and wait process so patience and the ability to give up all control is essential. We have learned so much about what a tragic yet beautiful thing that adoption is and we’ve grown and been humbled by the process. We know more adventure is coming when our child is placed in our arms.

We put everything in God’s hands and dove right in without worry to cost or anything else because we knew this was his path for our family. He has blessed us with a matching grant from Lifesong for Orphans for $3,500. For context, adoption costs are similar to buying a new car without any financing available. We have been able to cover the cost out of savings, but your support will help with the remaining cost of finalizing our adoption.

We are delighted that you took the time to share in our story and we hope that you’ll be part of our journey!  Please support our journey through a donation to our story or pray for us, the child God has picked for us and their birth family.

With love and gratitude,

The Secrest
