Santos Family Burundi Adoption Journey

Hi!  My name is Brandi, and I am married to an amazing man of God.  Jordan and I are college sweethearts that have enjoyed the perks of a slow burn towards love.  We have been blessed with a pretty effortless marriage, but have definitely had our share of challenges along the way.  From being a lonely, seminary wife to moving across the country FOUR times… all the way to infertility issues and a miracle pregnancy, my man has never left my side and I love him all the more for it.

Hmmm… a little more about us:  We are adventure seekers.  Trying new things is our favorite. We are big travelers and love road-trips.  Buuut at the end of the day, we really are homebodies and just prefer a night alone with a box of pizza.  We laugh at each other A LOT. We have been blessed two CRAZY biological miracle babies and we ADORE them to pieces.  The Lord consumes our lives, and we wholeheartedly submit to His PERFECT will.   Oh… and another thing- we have a HUGE heart for orphans.

Our adoption journey began a few months into our marriage.  The Somalian famine was getting a lot of media coverage and we were convicted that, while we didn’t have much, our “little” was more than what most children would EVER have.  After finding that Somalia was a “closed country,” we started doing our research and landed on Ethiopia.  OUR HEARTS STOPPED. Initially we started pursuing an Ethiopian adoption, but then the program closed due to in-country illegal practices (like trafficking children). Our agency suggested that we consider looking into a few other pilot programs, one of which being Burundi. Burundi is in the top 3 POOREST and MOST UNHAPPY nations in the world. It’s stricken with a recent genocide and many political aftershocks that keep the general population at risk. To adopt from Burundi is to LITERALLY rescue two little souls in every sense of the word.
