We are the Reyes Family!! Chris and Liz have been married for 11 years and have 4 biological children: Nolan (age 9), Zachary and Elena (twins, age 7), and Joshua (age 4). We live in Elizabethtown, Kentucky and are active members of Muldraugh Baptist Church just outside of Fort Knox, Kentucky.
We have always wanted a large family and we knew that adoption would eventually be a part of our story. Chris previously worked in a group home and had experienced firsthand the great reward that comes from loving and caring for children who are not your own. Liz is very outspoken pro-life and previously volunteered as a counselor for a pregnancy crisis center, where the Lord instilled in her a desire to love and care for children who are saved from abortion. We weren’t sure when, or from where, but the seed of adoption was planted in both of our hearts.
After having our 4th child, we knew that, “we were done, biologically.” Since that time, our life has become pretty settled. We participate in a solid, biblical church, we built a home on a small farm where we have dogs, chickens, and bees, we homeschool, play soccer, and spend time as a family camping, canoeing, and kayaking. Satan could easily tempt us to continue living our lives in the glory of our comforts and security. However, God does not call us to live for ourselves; He calls us to die to ourselves and live for His glory. By the end of 2020, we had applied with Lifeline Children’s Services and began the process of adoption from Costa Rica. We could never imagine our children being faced with separation, so we knew from the beginning that we would be pursuing a sibling set in order to keep biological siblings together.
*In August 2021, we learned of a sibling group at risk of separation. Through much prayer, we discerned that the Lord had laid it upon our hearts to pursue these kiddos. We were able to switch countries to Brazil the week before submitting our home study!! More updates to come...
We believe that adoption is the closest picture in this life of the gospel – children who are made ours, not through flesh and blood, but through the eternal and perfect will of God. We believe that the care of orphans is a command that God has laid upon His church, and that He is specifically calling us to put our trust in Him as we step out in faith into the unknown, and the uncomfortable, and the hard. For some of us, that means bringing children home. For others, it means giving, both financially, and in support and encouragement of adoptive families. For all, it means prayer. We need to fundraise $35,000 in order to bring the rest of our children home. This sounds like a daunting fundraising goal, but we know that the Lord is able to do abundantly more than all that we ask or think!!
We are already seeing the ways in which the Lord is working and providing – we have been chosen by the Orphan Care Alliance for a $4500 matching grant!! This means that the first $4500 raised towards our adoption will be matched (UPDATE: we have received this matching grant through the generous support of our friends & family!!).
