Randall Family’s Sibling Adoption

Brittany Randall
Brittany Randall Charleston, South Carolina

April 2025: We are so excited to announce that in one month we will be on a plane heading to Eastern Europe to meet our THREE BOYS. We will meet them May 7th and spend about 6-7 weeks in-country with them before we all head home as a family of five!

Our boys are 6, 7, and 8 years old. There are many details that we have to keep private for the time being (such as their names and the country they live in). They do not know they are being adopted yet, but they will be told in a few weeks, and at that time they will be given a book we made to help explain who we are and their new home.

These brothers are the three siblings that we have been specifically pursuing since our most recent post in October. We moved in early December and we feel so blessed and settled in our new home. The house, neighborhood, and friends in Park Circle have been exactly what we were looking for. We have already felt so provided for, and the delivery drivers are well-acquainted with our home thanks to the generosity of our village.

This has been an incredible journey for the past 2+ years. We aren’t able to succinctly describe all God has done as He has led us, directed our path, opened doors, and blessed us beyond what we could ask or imagine.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Our journey really only begins in May. We have received so much love, help, and encouragement from family, close friends, and even complete strangers. We know that we will continue to lean on others as we embark on this adventure.

We hope to one day spend time remembering and sharing more details of this 2+ year journey. Our greatest hope is that our lives and the lives of our children would point others to the hope we have in Christ. He who was faithful then is still faithful now and forever.

Give us this day our daily bread. Amen!

Original Post, April 2023:

We have had hearts for adoption long before we met.

We prayed for adoption and even began saving for adoption when we were engaged and preparing for marriage. When Brittany was in occupational therapy school, she completed her capstone project with the Medical University of South Carolina’s International Adoption Clinic, creating resources for adoptive parents. During this time, we began meeting with Lifeline Children’s Services and officially started our own adoption journey. We both felt that God was calling us to make adoption our Plan A for how to begin our family. When discussing country options with Lifeline, they told us about the North Macedonia program they were launching. They needed families who were flexible, open to a wide range of possibilities, and willing to enter a program with fewer certainties. They are the only US agency approved for adoption from North Macedonia, and we became one of the few families in this program.
We are hoping to adopt one child or a sibling set of two children, between the ages of 0 and 6 years, with mild or moderate special needs.

The estimated cost for our international adoption ranges from $44,000 for one child to  $70,000 for two children. This includes foreign program fees, agency fees, travel expenses, visas, etc. We are blessed to have been awarded a matching grant of $5,600, which will match donations on this platform up to that amount.

We don’t intend to go through this alone, and we are asking for prayer, support, encouragement, and counsel, especially from our close friends and family. We are also asking for financial gifts. We know that there are many ways that our friends and family (and even strangers!) can join us as we communicate to our child(ren) that they are loved and cared for. We are grateful for all of the ways you may support and care for us and our child(ren) on the journey ahead. They will no longer be orphans when they are adopted into our family, just as we have received adoption into God’s family through Jesus’s death and resurrection. We believe that our child(ren) are on the other side of the world even at this moment, and we pray for them and those caring for them until they make their way to us. Please join us in whatever capacity you feel called, knowing that we are deeply grateful for your support and friendship.

With love,

Reese and Brittany

“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” Galatians 4:4-7

October 2024 Update!

October 17, 2024

We are overjoyed to share an adoption update! So much has happened over the past few years, and this is especially true of the past few months. We are pursuing a specific sibling set of THREE children in Eastern Europe! We are feeling everything: excited, nervous, and most of all hopeful to be a family of five soon.

In our last update in May, we were celebrating our paperwork progressing through multiple rounds of approvals. As of July we were officially waiting for a referral from North Macedonia for our future child. We were approved to adopt one or two children ages 0-6. Over the past year, our hearts towards adopting more than two children started to grow. We began talking about what it would look like to build our family through multiple adoptions, adopting once now and maybe again in a few years. However, by August, we were asking ourselves what it would look like to begin here, with the adoption of a larger sibling set. Sibling sets of 3 or more children can have a difficult time being adopted. Families willing to adopt internationally often have children of their own, and adding 3 or more children isn’t an option for many of them. Since adoption is our Plan A for starting our family, we are blessed with capacity and flexibility. So we started considering the idea of adopting siblings who were waiting to be adopted. We scheduled a call with our agency in September, and the reality sank in that to pursue a sibling set, we would likely have to switch our program country. We have grown to love and appreciate North Macedonia, the pilot program, and the other families in the program. The decision to leave the pilot program was difficult. However, a few days after our initial conversation with our caseworker, she notified us of a sibling set in a different Eastern European country, who were urgently waiting to be adopted. The specifics of the situation and the timing of the referral coming to our caseworker appeared to be an incredible fit. After taking time to prayerfully consider and review the file provided, we decided we were all in!

We could be traveling to get our children as early as Spring or Summer 2025. The children won’t find out about us until a couple of weeks before we travel, which is part of why we have to be very vague with how we talk about their personal information, including their names, ages, and home country. We will spend 6 weeks in-country with our children and then return home to South Carolina as one big family.

Speaking of home… In light of this upcoming change, we have also decided to purchase a house in a different part of Charleston. We chose a home within short walking distance of a few of our closest friends. We know that raising three children will truly take a village, and we wanted to have a lot of help and support nearby. We will be moving in November!

We have been blown away by the amount of support and encouragement we have received from others. It means so much to us when people check in with us, ask questions regarding this process, pray for us, and continue to do so over these long months of waiting. It gives us great joy to share this good news with you. Thank you for taking the time to read this update. As our situation evolves we will continue to rely on the prayers, support, and generosity of others. Please consider sharing this update with others, partnering with us financially as you are able, and praying for us and our children as we take the next step in this adventure.

May 2024 Update!

May 8, 2024

From Reese:

Brittany and I have had the joy of walking through this adoption journey for over a year now, and we are grateful that the Lord has allowed us to come this far. There has been a lot of work done over this past year, and the simplest way to summarize it is that we have been gathering documents and completing paperwork. It was hard for us to believe that this part would take a year… until we did it! So here we are now! We have some recent updates:

February 2024 – United States reviewed our paperwork and approved our family to adopt

March 2024 – Our paperwork was sent to North Macedonia to be translated

April 2024 – Our translated paperwork has been submitted to the North Macedonian government

Next step – Receiving approval from North Macedonia to adopt. A couple families have recently received approval, so we anticipate hearing from North Macedonia by early July.

What will happen after we receive approval from North Macedonia is still a mystery since it is a new program! We call this next stage “matching,” because the idea is that Brittany and I will be matched with profiles that represent a child or sibling set who is waiting to be adopted. Receiving a profile does not equate a finalized adoption, but it will be a  conversation and decision from there and could potentially put us right “at the doorstep” to bringing our child/children home.

International adoption never seems to be a clear process, but considering we are in a pilot program, the unknowns are a major characteristic of our next few steps. We had the privilege of meeting two other couples who are in the North Macedonia program at a conference held by our adoption agency, and we traveled to the conference with our Charleston-based adoption friends. Brittany and I felt so encouraged from spending time with these 3 families, talking about our experience, sharing truths with one another, and laughing so loudly we almost had to be separated (I hadn’t been threatened with that one since middle school, who knew). It is incredible how immediately and naturally our hearts are so knit together with these families. We continue to pray for and learn from one another.

Please be praying for all the families in the North Macedonia program (I believe there are 6 total). Also, North Macedonia is holding a major election on May 8th. They will elect their parliament and president. We are praying this will not have a negative impact on international adoptions.

We feel extremely supported and loved by friends and family. I know this page says we are have raised about ~$5,000 of our goal of $20,000, however that amount does not include our matching grant, which would put us at about  $10,000. We also have a few other generous sources who are waiting until we are closer to actual adoption. By the time we travel, we anticipate being at or around $20,000. The gifts have been extremely humbling, and the support and help we’ve received from so many people goes well beyond financial.

As we wait for approval from North Macedonia, Brittany and I have enjoyed reading books about their country, cooking traditional Macedonian meals, and going on walks to talk and pray about this process. Some days it feels like life is about to change tomorrow, while other days it feels like it could take years. We don’t truly know, but our excitement and desire to start our family in this unique way has only increased with time. Thank you for reading this, thank you for being in this with us, we hope to have more updates soon.
