Powell Adoption Adventure

Ashley Powell Chapin, South Carolina

We are so excited to announce that we are adopting and have been matched with a baby girl due on 11/3/2020. Our hearts are overjoyed! We have already connected so well with baby girl’s birth family and we can’t wait to live life alongside them as our extended family! We have such an amazing God!

Many family and friends know a large portion of our story. In March of 2016 we had Hunter James- our amazing little guy who is 4 now! Shortly after, we found out we were pregnant again, but in January of 2017 we lost Sage Boone at 15 weeks. It was a traumatic event for our family, and we are so thankful for the community we had surrounding us and our family and friends from afar praying for us as we recovered. Exactly 1 year after our loss we became pregnant again, and were hopeful that this baby was our Rainbow Baby. Unfortunately, in April of 2018 at our 16 week scan to find out gender- we instead found out that there was no longer a heartbeat. Once again our hearts were shattered as we delivered our sweet Oliver Beau. We were able to count his fingers and toes and hold his sweet little body, just as we did with Sage Boone. It was a bittersweet time, but we are so thankful we had those moments with our babies.

It took until the end of 2019 for us to grieve our losses. We have accepted that this grief is part of our story- grief is a part of every person’s story based on their experiences. It is how we emerge from that grief that determines our next steps. We kept God close and kept faith that He would speak into our lives on our next step to grow our family. We are thrilled He has answered our prayers so quickly through domestic newborn adoption!

Adoption is overwhelmingly expensive. When you add up all the fees for the adoption consultant, home study, education, profile book, adoption agency, legal, and travel expenses it’s going to be approximately $50,000. Yes, that is a very intimidating number, but we have a God that is never intimidated. HE turns water into wine, feeds the 5000, heals the blind, died on the cross and saved us from our sins so we can spend eternity with Him. He is a Way-Marker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the Darkness- we have faith that He will provide a way to grow our family through adoption! We have already started our first fundraiser! We’ve been selling “Magnolia Thyme Market Bags” through our business- with a goal to sell 500 bags which will help raise about 1/5 of our adoption expenses- we’ve sold around 120 so far! We just completed two large garage sales where we raised well over $3,200, and we have our next garage sale set for October 3rd! We’ve started applying for adoption grants and loans as well to help assist! We are so grateful that we have received a little over $8,000 in donations from friends and family so far, we’ve raised about $4,320 with the Market Bag Fundraiser, and approximately $3,200 in our garage sale fundraiser. We also decided to donate the money raised from our last two Magnolia Thyme events directly to our adoption as well. God is good! In total we’ve raised approximately $20,000. We need to raise approximately $20,000 more to help fund bringing our daughter home. We have received a generous matching donation through Lifesong for up to $3,500! What a blessing and a gift to our family! We’d be honored if you could help us reach our campaign goal of $5,000- as this will help fund $8,500 toward our adoption of baby girl!

We ask our family and friends to pray with us as we seek to follow God’s calling for our family. We humbly ask as you pray to hear God’s heart for children and to seek His guidance on how you may be able to financially contribute to our adoption. Our daughter will be here soon, and we are so grateful that God placed our family on the adventure of a lifetime to grow our family in a God-honoring way. We are thankful for you, our family and friends, for your love, encouragement, and support.
