We are grateful you are taking time to learn about our journey! We invite you to join us as we pray for God’s timing in matching our family with precious children from Burundi!
Adoption has been on our hearts for years and a calling we have prayed about throughout our marriage. The conversation and prayer had often led to continued waiting, trusting that it wasn’t time yet, but in 2017 God began stirring in us again and brought multiple opportunities for us to process the call that we have felt to adopt. In November 2017, Thanksgiving weekend, our church hosted an international children’s choir, “His Little Feet”, and following the brief visit to our church, we went to a full program they put on at another church in a nearby city that evening. It was at this event that Shawn felt God speaking to him about the responsibility of fathers and the opportunity to be a father to the fatherless. He has always been personally touched by the understanding of Heavenly Father, and God used that very personal message to speak to his heart that night. Before mentioning anything to me, we began our drive home. Almost immediately, without any prompting from us, our children began talking together about adopting and Shawn and I just listened. We have discussed adoption with them and have always been open about our desire and belief that if God made it clear to us that we would pursue adoption. During this car ride, our children shared their thoughts and dreams of growing our family through adoption. They were all in agreement over amazing details and the joy of their conversation was incredible. The presence of God was so real in that car ride home, the peace that was filling our hearts and the eagerness to pray. We spent the rest of the drive praying together as a family, asking God to do miracles and bring provision and clarity to us as we said yes to Him in faith. Over the course of the next year, we prayed and researched and asked many questions to friends that have adopted. We knew God had placed Africa on our hearts from the very beginning but many programs were closed, so through that year we explored opportunities and waited for peace about the specifics. In November 2018, God brought us to a program through AGCI that had just been opened to add new families again for the country of Burundi, and we knew this was the place our hearts were being drawn. We moved forward, committing to this program exactly one year after our car ride calling. God’s timing is amazing and He has brought confirmation each step of the way, providing incredible support and affirming encouragement through His Word, our family and community. We are working hard to do everything that is needed and have seen God bring the provision at every major point of need. We are trusting Him to continue to lead and do what only He can do as we put our faith in Him. We know there is hope because God brings the promise and fulfillment of hope and we believe we are part of His plan to bring hope to the hopeless.
We have been graciously awarded a $4,000 matching grant funded by We Care for Orphans, an “Outside the Walls” partner who wants to support Lifesong adoptive families.
