Our desire to adopt started long before we met one another. The Lord was knitting our hearts as 2 single people and shaping our lives to prepare us for what was ahead! Our first conversation about adoption occurred in a local coffee shop, on one of our very first dates as we discussed what we desired for our future family and where we felt the Lord was calling us (we know what you’re thinking…that got serious fast & yes it did haha). In that moment, we knew the question was not a matter of if, but when, will we adopt. While we knew it would be “someday” we didn’t know “what day”.
Fast forward less than a year later and we are married, and 15 months after that we are looking into the eyes of our precious baby girl, Abigail. Experiencing Abigail’s birth, helped us have an even deeper understanding of the gift and miracle life really is. In those moments, we were reminded that there are 140 million orphans who do not know the love and nurture that parents provide. This reminder, brought an inescapable ache that grew in our hearts and it was there in our daughter’s bedroom just a few months into her earthly life, we decided we did not want to wait another day to respond to the need, it was time for us to bring an orphan into a forever home!
During this time, our church was partnering with our adoption agency for a Colombia Hosting Program. It was through this program that we entered our adoption process in Spring of 2020. Right about that time, Covid-19 decided to bring on a pandemic that would put the program on pause so we shifted to pursing adoption, still through Colombia, but without the host program. Late Spring 2021, we were presented with an opportunity in another Latin American country that ended with a closed door. What felt like a major “delay” in our process, really was the Lord’s timing. We know that the He orders our steps and He upholds us. NOW..we are at dossier submission in Colombia and are very excited as we wait to be matched with our child or children (yes, we are open to a sibling group)!
While we know not everyone is called to adopt, we do believe that scripture is clear that we are all called to respond in defending the fatherless. We can do this in a variety of ways including prayer, as well as the giving of our time, talent, and treasure. We know it takes a village to raise a child and we would be honored for you to come alongside us as we wait and work to bring our child/children home.
Adoption is costly, ours exceeds $40,000 without considering the additional expenses that will be incurred if we are able to adopt a sibling group. We have been awarded a $4,000 matching grant funded by Lifesong and a $4,000 matching grant funded by Colonial Heights Baptist Church. We would love to be able to raise enough funds to meet each of these matching grants plus more as we start 2022! We are grateful for whatever you would CONSIDER GIVING and know this wouldn’t be possible without you.
We ask that you PRAY the Lord grant us patience to trust in His perfect timing, that He grant us wisdom in how to best prepare our hearts and home for our future child/children, that He works in Abigail’s heart to prepare her for bonding with her future brother/sister, and that as our child/children wait, their heart/s are being groomed to join our family.
Lastly, we ask that you SHARE OUR STORY with one other person. This will help us maximize opportunity to have others join in our cause.
With deepest gratitude,
Adam and Tiffany Platt
