Patrick Family Adoption

Jill Patrick Hendersonville, Tennessee

Thanks for taking the time to read our story on how we came to our decision to adopt.

Our journey to adoption began about 9 years ago.  We had several family and friends who opened their hearts and lives to love on and care for foster and adopted children.  During this time, we were going through multiple tests to see why we had trouble conceiving.  After multiple tests and a surgery for Jill, we found out that Jill had unexplained infertility.  Our doctor then recommended that we take other steps to conceive, including IVF.  However, after prayer and discussion, we knew that the Lord was using the example of those around us who opened their homes to children in need in order to show us that our next step was not IVF, but to open our hearts to begin the adoption process.

After moving to Tennessee 2014, we began our first adoption journey and after two years of waiting, we brought our daughter Brielle home.  Brielle is now three years old and we have begun the process of adopting our second child by working with Faithful Adoption Consultants. We have been listed as waiting parents for about three months now, and are prayerfully waiting for God to bring us our next child.

Throughout both of our adoption journeys, God has taught us how to rely on our community for support. Through prayer, listening, financial support, and words of truth, God has used our community to carry us through when things have seemed impossible to us. The Lord has also given us opportunities to share His truth with Brielle’s birth family since we are in contact with them through email each month. We now look forward to building a relationship with the birth family of our next child and being a vessel in sharing God’s truth with them.

Many ask why adoption is so expensive… and when we started, we were also taken aback at the high cost.  The average cost of adoption through a private agency in the United States is around $40,000, which accounts for agency overhead costs, agency legal fees, and birth mother expenses such as housing, medical, food and clothing costs while they are working with the agency. In addition to the agency costs, there are the costs of a home study, legal costs, and travel expenses, together adding up to around $10,000.  From the sale of our first home in Tennessee and savings we were able to set aside about $35,000 for this adoption, and received a couple thousand from close friends and family. We are now conducting a fundraiser to account for the remaining $12k-15k.

In addition, we are so thankful to have recently learned that Lifesong for Orphans has awarded us a $3,500 matching grant!! This means that if we can raise at least $3,500 from gifts from friends and family, we would end up with $7,000, or almost half of the remaining funds we need for our adoption!

We are very thankful to you for reading our story and considering donating to our adoption. We have faith that God will bring us our next baby soon, and that He will provide for our needs as well. Most of all we would appreciate your prayers for us during this time and more importantly prayers for the birth mother and child that God has already chosen for us.
