So why have we chosen to grow our family through adoption? We have been asked this question a lot! Adoption has always been on my (Crystal) heart. My best friend growing up was adopted and I was able to see my student pastor adopt a little girl while in the student ministry. I honestly can say God laid this desire on my heart to adopt when I was about 14 years old. To us adoption is a way to honor God’s commandment to take care of the orphans, but it’s also a way to help a birth mother who may not be able to take care of this precious child. The final decision really came about when Trey was told that having biological children may not be the best thing for him, due to a condition he was born with. It was a hard time for him and being a woman there is always the desire to want to conceive and give birth to a child. But, God has different plans for us! Adoption is allowing us to become parents for the first time! God adopted us into his family and loves us unconditionally. We long to do the same with the child God allows us to adopt.
Trey and I started our adoption journey back on November of 2016 when we were accepted into Lifeline Childrens Services Domestic program. We have gone through countless interviews and done lots of paperwork. We were able to finalize our home study back in March and are now anxiously waiting to be matched with our future child’s birth mother. So far we have seen God provide for us in many ways through our journey. Adoption isn’t cheap, but when God calls you to adoption, HE provides every need. Going into this we both knew we couldn’t do this on our own. God is allowing us to build community with other adoptive couples and tell our story as we begin our fundraising adventures.
Why fundraising? Honestly if I am straight and to the point, adoption is expensive! But despite the expense Trey and I know that God has called us to this journey. We want to make sure we are doing our part in this too. Its easy to sit back and say “oh God is gonna take care of it” which honestly in the end he will, but we have to put in some work too! We have dilligently been saving and working hard to have a debt free adoption. Back in May we graciously recieved a matching grant from RACE for the Orphans. A maching grant basically is a grant that we recieve when we are able to raise the amount that is granted to us. So for example: if we were granted $2,000 then we would have to raise $2,000 in order for us to recieve the matching grant of $2,000 resulting in our total being $4,000. Basically the grant doubles what we raise. This is the main reason we have chosen to fundraise like crazy! I can honestly say it is extremely hard for us to ask people for money, but our prayer is that you will know each dollar donated goes directly to helping us bring our future child home!
