Dear Family and Friends,
We absolutely love our little family. We find so much joy together that shortly after our son Elijah was born, we felt the desire to grow our family and share in even more love and happiness. After several months of trying to conceive with no success, the idea of adoption was growing in our hearts. In the fall of 2017, we heard about the Imagine Conference held at our church, North Way Christian Community. The conference focuses on serving the marginalized people in our communities and in the world, with lots of education on adoption. We thought that it was too perfect to be coincidence. There, our whole idea of adoption was flipped on its head. We had been looking at adoption as a way to grow our family and fulfill our dreams. Although it was a seemingly selfless act, the intentions were honestly selfish in that we wanted a bigger family for our own joy. After learning more about adoption and our call to care for the orphan, we both saw that adoption was not simply an option to consider. For us, we finally saw adoption as what we are called to do in order to show love to others.
God revealed to us that adoption is not at all about Randy, it is not about Melanie, and it is not about Elijah. Simply put – it is about our future child. It is going to be an incredibly sacrificial but blessed journey to show the love of Christ to a child of God. It is going to be an opportunity to look at this child and remind him or her that so many people love them. More importantly, it is going to give us a chance to remind this child that God loves them.
Shortly after the conference, we chose Bethany Christian Services as our agency for many reasons. We were very drawn to them as a Christian agency, as we believe that this whole process has been God’s design. We also love how much emphasis they put on counseling the expectant mothers and educating all parties involved. Throughout this process, we have been opening up about this journey with friends and family. So many people have been supportive of us by encouraging our choice and praying for us along the way. It is wonderful to see how God is already using this journey as an opportunity for us to open up about how He is actively working in our lives.
We still have a little while to go in the process. We are now at the stage where we will be presented to expectant families and we are praying that our story and our family stands out to the right person at the right time. We know that God has his hands all over this journey and we trust that he will give us the opportunity to love a child that is meant to join our incredibly happy little family.
Apart from your continued support through prayer, we also ask that you please consider supporting us financially in this journey. The costs of the home study, agency fees, birth mother care, and legal fees are a significant challenge. In total, we estimate that the cost will be approximately $33,000. We know that God brought us to this and that he will guide us in finding a way to manage the associated costs, but we know that we cannot do it alone. We would be so grateful for any contribution, large or small, that you might feel led to make to our adoption.
