Adoption has been part of our plan as a way to grow our family since early into dating. For Caroline, adoption has been a passion since high school that really blossomed during college while taking child welfare classes. The Lord led her to a career in social work, working in the field of foster care and adoption, and placed a personal desire on her heart to one day adopt. For Caleb, he has always wanted to be a father and felt a calling that adoption would be part of that story. When we met, we began talking about our shared desire to have children and become parents, and soon realized that adoption was something on both of our hearts.
We have struggled with infertility, which has led us to adoption sooner than we expected, but it was always part of the plan. We do not consider adoption as “plan b” in growing our family. We had two “plan a’s”, to have biological children and to adopt, and we truly feel that adoption is the way the Lord is directing us right now. As believers we both know and understand the need of adoption and that it is a true calling. We do not believe that the Lord calls all Christians to adopt, but we do believe that He calls all Christians to be part of adoption somehow. It is the purest picture of the gospel and how we are all adopted into the family of God. He chose us as His children and loves us all like His children. With that view of adoption, we feel we must answer the call God has given us.
It has been neat to see how the Lord has been preparing our hearts for adoption for quite some time and we are so excited to finally be in the adoption process! We cannot wait to watch all the ways the Lord works! We are fully trusting Him and the plans He has for our family. We know that we will be strengthened and stretched in so many ways and we hope that our story encourages others along the way.
This is not something we can do on our own and we truly appreciate any and all support given to us! 😊
