Open & Willing

Rachel Anglen Glasgow, Kentucky

From the beginning of our marriage, adoption has always been on our hearts. We have always known that we would provide a home someday to a child in need of one. In August of 2019, we began a journey of international adoption from China. The Lord put on our hearts a very specific type of adoption, a child with Down syndrome. We were matched quickly to a little girl who has Down syndrome who remains in an orphanage in China. Unfortunately, Covid-19 derailed our plans and at this time China adoptions are closed. Through her adoption journey we learned about the National Down Syndrome Adoption Network and of the need for domestic adoption of children with Down syndrome here in America. We have chosen to open the door of domestic adoption since China’s door is closed. We anxiously await the little one that will fill our hearts and make our 4 years of waiting worth while! As a family, we have gained so much love and zest for life through children and adults with special needs. Our experience dates back to our high school careers, both of us working with children who have special needs and continues into the present where we as a family continue to enjoy life serving and working with both children and adults who have special needs. We have many friends and even some family who have special needs, it is a part of who we are and is a collective family passion of ours. We both have experience working with children who have Down syndrome and we have fallen in love with the contagious love they have to offer. We would like to use that passion and love for special needs to invite a child with Down syndrome into our home to receive the special love and care we as a family have to offer. We anxiously await the little one here in America that will fill our hearts and make our 4 years of waiting worth while and still hope to be able to bring our little girl home from China when and if doors open.

** The total for a private adoption in America is usually $16,000-25,000.  We are so grateful to be recipients of $6,000 in matching grants from Hope that Binds Adoption Fund and Lifesong for Orphans.  We are so grateful to have them partnering with us!
