Nygaard Family Adoption

Tara Nygaard Muscatine, Iowa

Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you know, we are in the process of adopting our child from China through Lifeline Children’s Services. As we move closer to “gotcha day!”, we are thankful for the journey God has led us through. Our adoption story began before we were married: Tara and I started dating shortly before we entered grad school: I attended Southern Seminary and Tara was at Samford. During this time, we were both exposed to the gospel implications of adoption and God began to place that desire in our hearts.

Through the faithful teaching of Scripture at our churches and my seminary, we became convicted about the command to care for orphans in passages like James 1:27. The prospect of adoption stirred in our hearts pictures of God’s adoption of us from 1 John 3:1 and Romans 8. By the time we were engaged, we knew we wanted to adopt. This desire was only fed by our subsequent experiences. A number of our close friends had adopted, and we saw first hand both the unique trials and the great joys that came along with adoption. This past summer, we began the process.

We are committed to bringing our child home, and hope you will be able to join with us in helping bring little Nygaard home. One of the main ways you can help is through your prayer, especially be praying for our future child! Pray that he or she is safe and well loved!

Our total estimated cost to adopt from China is $40,000 and that includes home study fees, agency fees, immigration applications and visas, and our travel to China. We are grateful to have been blessed with a $3,500 matching grant from We Care For Orphans, administered by  Lifesong for Orphans.  While our grant will be matched up to $3,500, our fundraising goal is $25,000. With these funds along with other grants our family has been blessed to receive, we will be able to fully cover the cost of our adoption! Lifesong will accept funds for our adoption until our child is home or our adoption is complete.  Our hope is that we will be fully funded by the end of December 2019.

Thank you for your generosity, love, and prayer as we continue on this journey to care for the fatherless.

Waiting

June 7, 2020

We continue to wait until the global pandemic has subsided, international travel has resumed, and government offices have resumed operations. As of now, the best we can hope for is travel in October but that is not guaranteed. Please pray for a miracle. Pray that God will make a way, a clear path of travel. We ache to have our son home. We have hope in our good God who is in control of all things and who sees and cares for our son when we can not.
