My name is Katie Novakoski and I am adopting an older child with more involved special needs from India. My immediate family includes my mother, father, and brother (who was adopted domestically at birth). Two years before I was born, my parents made the decision to adopt domestically. I grew up with such positive views and experiences surrounding adoption that I knew one day I would adopt myself when I was married and seemed "ready".
In 2017, God began working in my heart and showing me how I could parent a child as a single mother with His strength and guidance. I began the process mid 2018 to adopt as a single mother from India (a country I had previously been to and fell in love with). This has been a long journey as I fell in love with a little girl that was out of the age range that is typically allowed in India and spent many months writing letters and showing the Indian government how I planned to make it work and care for her here. After long waits and back and forths, they agreed that this is in fact, in best interest for her and allowed us to be matched together.
She is the most amazing 13-year-old girl who is so full of love and giggles. She has cerebral palsy and a visual impairment. She requires assistance with all activities and personal care. She will use a wheelchair to move around her environment when she is home as she does not currently bear weight or walk. I am beyond excited for her to have access to physical therapy, as well as other therapies and school, to see what leaps and bounds of progress she makes with those and the love of a consistent family. I cannot wait to have her in my arms, to tuck her in at night, to love her to the best of my abilities, and to give her what she deserves in life. I hope to instill many things in my daughter but what I want her to know most is how deeply loved she is by not only me but her Heavenly Father. Through the Lords strength and guidance, I hope to be able to be an earthly example of the love that He has for her and how He will pursue her.
