The Morgan Adoption Journey

Friends & Family – We are excited to announce that we are adopting!

This may be the first you have heard about our decision to adopt. We want to take a minute to tell you about our journey and how we have seen God’s faithfulness unfold in our lives.

We have been married for nine years and have always desired to have children. We have known that having children naturally would present its challenges. Over the years, we have prayed and asked God to direct our steps concerning this matter. In order for us to get pregnant, Monica would need to stop taking a medication that has tremendously helped in managing her arthritis. Last year, we realized this was not the best decision for her health. It was then that we accepted that having our children naturally probably would not happen. We felt the full weight of our loss; the baby we would never hold and the life we could not create. We took some time to grieve, process, and pray where God was leading us next.

After some time, we felt God directing us to adopt. We have always had a heart for adoption because we know God’s heart is in adoption. The story of the Gospel is rooted in adoption. God has reconciled us to Him in order for us to be adopted into His family. How amazing is it that we can give a child that same opportunity! That we would be entrusted with the responsibility to raise a child to honor and respect God is something we do not take lightly. The greatest accomplishment we could ever achieve would be to leave a godly legacy through our children.

In November 2018, we felt God leading us to adopt through Faithful Adoption Consultants. We applied and have been approved to adopt!  Since November 2018, we have been busy filling out all the required paperwork, getting physicals, completing a home study with a social worker, and other prep work. In May 2019, we became “active” and now are waiting to be matched with a child.

The matching process can be difficult and emotional. We created an adoption profile book which tells our story. Cases are sent to us, and we must decide if we want our adoption profile book presented to the birth parents. If we decide to present, our profile book is sent to the birth parents along with books from other prospective adoptive parents. The birth parents will select a family from those books. If we are chosen, we are “matched” and will begin a journey with the birth parents that continues until after the birth of the baby when the adoption can be finalized.

One of the biggest challenges in adoption is finding the finances to make it happen. Our estimated cost for the adoption is between $45,000 to $55,000. We know God is faithful and is leading us to trust Him. We have always wanted two kids and felt we needed to be open to adopting both at the same time in order to derail some of the cost of adoption. However, as we have begun the matching process, we are unsure if this will happen. If it does not, we will pray to see if God is leading us to go through the adoption process a second time.

We have been blessed to partner with Lifesong for Orphans. Through this organization, we have been provided a $4,000 matching grant by We Care for Orphans. We are very grateful for their generosity; however, in order to take advantage of this grant, we must fundraise money to match this grant. We have prayerfully considered the amount of money we need to raise to meet our adoption needs. We believe we need to raise $10,000. Our goal date to raise these funds is by August 15, 2019. Through Lifesong for Orphans we have been provided an online platform through mySTORY to begin our campaign.

If you feel led to help, there are two ways you can give:

1.     GIVE ONLINE – Give through our mySTORY campaign page, please click the DONATE button above. (2.2% + .30 USD per transaction fee applies through STRIPE. Your donation will be decreased by this amount.)

 2.   GIVE BY CHECK – Please make checks payable to “Lifesong for Orphans”. In order to ensure it is credited to our account, in the memo line please note, “Preference: #8441 Morgan”.

Checks can be mailed to:

Thank you for allowing us to share our story. We appreciate your consideration in helping us meet our campaign goal, but above all, we appreciate your prayers. Please pray God would care for the birth mom and baby until we are able to bring the baby home; that God would prepare Monica and I for the upcoming changes to our family; and that God will give us wisdom, discernment, and insight as we raise our child/children to know Jesus.

We pray this entire process will glorify God.

Sincerely,

Josh and Monica Morgan

Morgan Adoption Journey Update

July 15, 2019

We want to give an update on our adoption process. Unfortunately, there is not much to report. We continue to receive cases from birth mothers but have not come close to a match.

Adoption is a waiting game. I think we were prepared for the waiting. What we weren’t prepared for was the unknown. What if we wait for months or years and our prayers are not answered? What if the family we envisioned having does not become reality? Did we hear God’s direction for our lives when we pursued adoption? These are the questions that surface on the difficult days. Waiting is not that difficult for me. Waiting in the unknown can be tormenting.

When we moved into our house a couple of years ago, we had a canvas painting made to hang over the mantle in our living room. The mantle is the centerpiece of our home and we wanted a canvas with a phrase that would be a declaration of our faith and a reminder of the God we serve. We decided upon “The waves and wind still know His name”. This phrase is taken from the song “It Is Well” by Bethel Music. I have always loved that part of the song because it was a reminder that God is with us in the storm. Our soul can say “It is well” because He has proven Himself faithful in the past. We felt this was an appropriate phrase to place above the mantle of our home and confess over the mantle of our heart. Little did we know that this phrase would become a battle cry for the next phase of life we were about to walk through.

I feel God uses music to speak to me. Lately, the song God has been using is “Highlands (Song of Ascent)” by Hillsong United. There is a line in the song that says “You’re the summit where my feet are”. I love the imagery that God is no less God in the valley than He is on the mountain. What I believe God has been revealing to me about this imagery, is that it represents our perspective on life. We may be walking through a valley but our perspective is that our feet are on the summit. It doesn’t mean we deny the existence of the valley but choose to focus on the summit.

We could focus on the cases we have received that resulted in a non-match or we could focus on the perfect child that God is preparing for us. We could focus on the feeling of loneliness that adoption can bring or we can focus on the tremendous outpouring of love and support we have received.

We choose to focus on the summit; the summit where our child is waiting for us; the summit where there has been a community of friends and family that have lifted us up on the hard days. The summit is where our focus will remain.

Monica and I cannot begin to express what your support has meant. There are no words that could be written or said that could describe the impact you have had on us. Just know this… your support has changed us. It has opened our hearts to a community in need and we will never be the same!
