“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
This verse is our motivation for everything we do, including our adoption journey. God has poured out his love into our lives, and we now seek to pour out that love into the lives of others.
One way of doing so is to care for the vulnerable. This is something we can do in many ways, but it is something we must do, not something we can choose not to do. One way we are choosing to pour out this love is through adoption. I (Megan) have felt a strong call to care for the most vulnerable starting later in high school and solidified in various life experiences including traveling to different parts of the world, seeing different types of people and needs. At some point God also started planting a desire to adopt in my heart. I can’t pinpoint when, but it was long before Chris was in the picture.
Chris took a tad longer to warm up to the idea after we began to discuss it, but it didn’t take long before he was on board in desiring to live into the call for caring for the most vulnerable in our society through fostering and/or adoption.
Our initial plan was to become licensed foster parents and hopefully someday adopt through foster care. We went through the process, became licensed, and have had a number of children in our home throughout the past nearly two years. After the birth of Cas, we decided to focus on pre-adoptive placements knowing that the short-term fostering was taking a toll on us and a hard adjustment for our children as well. To be completely honest, fostering is one of the hardest things we have ever done. But we have done it knowing God has called us to hard things, including fostering. If not us, then who? That’s how we have always looked at it. However, we have slowly started to feel God’s lead to fulfill this call to adoption in a different (or possibly additional) way, private domestic infant adoption.
We never imagined pursuing domestic infant adoption, and yet here we are. God is the one writing our family’s story, and this is the next chapter He has led us into.
We are so grateful to have received a matching grant from The Creek Adoption fund administered by Lifesong for Orphans. The matching grant is for $3,500, so every donation we receive up to this amount will be doubled! We’re so excited about this and being able to reach the full $7,000 if we complete this matching grant will have us nearly at our overall funding goal.
We would love for you to join us on our journey and partner with us financially as we seek to bring the next little babe home.
