Megan and Chris Adoption Journey

“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

This verse is our motivation for everything we do, including our adoption journey. God has poured out his love into our lives, and we now seek to pour out that love into the lives of others.

One way of doing so is to care for the vulnerable. This is something we can do in many ways, but it is something we must do, not something we can choose not to do. One way we are choosing to pour out this love is through adoption. I (Megan) have felt a strong call to care for the most vulnerable starting later in high school and solidified in various life experiences including traveling to different parts of the world, seeing different types of people and needs. At some point God also started planting a desire to adopt in my heart. I can’t pinpoint when, but it was long before Chris was in the picture.

Chris took a tad longer to warm up to the idea after we began to discuss it, but it didn’t take long before he was on board in desiring to live into the call for caring for the most vulnerable in our society through fostering and/or adoption.

Our initial plan was to become licensed foster parents and hopefully someday adopt through foster care. We went through the process, became licensed, and have had a number of children in our home throughout the past nearly two years. After the birth of Cas, we decided to focus on pre-adoptive placements knowing that the short-term fostering was taking a toll on us and a hard adjustment for our children as well. To be completely honest, fostering is one of the hardest things we have ever done. But we have done it knowing God has called us to hard things, including fostering. If not us, then who? That’s how we have always looked at it. However, we have slowly started to feel God’s lead to fulfill this call to adoption in a different (or possibly additional) way, private domestic infant adoption.

We never imagined pursuing domestic infant adoption, and yet here we are. God is the one writing our family’s story, and this is the next chapter He has led us into.

We are so grateful to have received a matching grant from The Creek Adoption fund administered by Lifesong for Orphans. The matching grant is for $3,500, so every donation we receive up to this amount will be doubled! We’re so excited about this and being able to reach the full $7,000 if we complete this matching grant will have us nearly at our overall funding goal.

We would love for you to join us on our journey and partner with us financially as we seek to bring the next little babe home.

Our son is here!

April 10, 2022

What a week…praising God for some sunshine to break up the darkness.

Meet our son, Seamus Saul. He was born the same day we were in the hospital delivering our sweet Theodore.

Thankful that God has been working in the midst of heartache. We love you, sweet boy!

Because Seamus came as a surprise (as in we received a call after he was born instead of matching with mom during her pregnancy). We’re now needing to fairly quickly come up with the remaining funds of $24,000. Any little bit helps!

Love,

Chris, Megan, Annette, Abe, Cas, Darcy, Liesl, Teddy, and Baby Seamus

We’ve matched!

February 10, 2022

We are offically matched! We’re in disbelief! We knew someday we’d get the call, but at the same time it seemed like the call would never really come. All I could do was cry when she told me on the phone.

Baby is due early September, and we are so thankful!

Heading into Christmas

December 4, 2021

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

Friends and family,

As many of you know, we have had a very difficult year that has been full of loss: first, we lost our son, Darcy, during the second trimester of Megan’s pregnancy. We loved him deeply, and his loss was incredibly unexpected. Two short weeks later, we said goodbye to our foster son that we loved as our own.

Surprisingly, we then got pregnant with our sweet rainbow girl, Liesl, just a few weeks later. While we were scared, we were completely grateful for the gift from God that she was and is. Sadly, for reasons we may never know, her sweet heart stopped beating like her big brother’s. After having three healthy, living babies that we are so incredibly thankful for, two losses like this completely rocked our world. The grief we have experienced is something we have never experienced before, and it’s something that has altered our family permanently. Darcy and Liesl will always be a part of our family, and we look forward to the day we will see them again with new and resurrected bodies in a restored creation.

“Yet our suffering here is so often the result of narrow vision, and we give it power by treating it as the end of the story. Christ offers a completely different way: ‘I am with you always,’ he says to the disciples (Mt. 28:20). We are never alone.” Fr. John Burns

All that being said, we are continuing to move forward one day at a time. At this point, we don’t know if God will bless us with another baby via biological or adoption. However, we continue to hope and pray for both. While we continue to consider what it may look like to pursue another pregnancy, we also are continuing to remain with open arms, open hearts, and an open home for a child (or children) via private adoption. We have been blessed by the generosity of many of you as well as some incredibly generous grants from a couple different organizations both local and national. We also finally completed our puzzle! On the back includes the names of those of you who sponsored puzzle pieces. We’re so excited to show our future child(ren) the names of those who were part of this journey. We feel incredibly grateful and blessed!

We are, however, continuing to raise funds for ongoing expenses such as our annual home study renewal and updated profile books as well as the hopes of signing with another agency to increase the reach we have with presenting our family to expectant moms. We ask that you would prayerfully consider an end-of-year gift toward our adoption fund to help us reach this next goal. You can make a tax-deductible donation through this Lifesong page. Thank you again for all of the love and support over this past year for our family as well as your continued prayer and support for adoption journey moving forward.

Blessings this holiday season!

Love,

Christopher, Megan, Annette, Abraham, Castiel, Darcy, and Liesl
