McGuffey’s Call to Adopt

Christopher McGuffey Canton, Mississippi

Our story begins 15 years ago preparing for marriage. In our discussions together, we talked about children and touched on the subject of adoption. In our discussions Casey and I both felt that adoption would be a wonderful picture of Christian love and grace to talk about and share with our children and our community as a whole. As life continued, we had three biological children and did not feel we would be able to financially undertake an adoption. In 2022, we realized as a church that there is a significant need for adoptive families to step in and give love to children who need families across the U.S. Our church made a push to support adoptive families and foster families among the congregation, and our family discussed once more a want to adopt, but again were intimidated by the cost of the process. Last year God began to work on us more pointedly with a call to adopt. It seemed we were surrounded by friends, coworkers, and church famiily who felt the need to share their adoption stories with us; the good, the bad, and the hard. Many spoke directly to the provision of God in their adoptive process and the joy and peace they had in waiting. One friend invited us to a Lifeline dinner that we attended which solidified our call. Then we met a family from our school who discussed resources for adoption that could assist with funding the process. It seemed God was showing us that He would provide the necessary resources that we would require if only we were willing to leap out in faith. We prayed for months about the decision and have such a peace about this, though we still do not know how it will work out, just that it will. We know that he will be sovereign in this process and that we will have a child to love and nurture and show the love of Christ through and to.
