We are Brad & Sally Martin! Brad is senior pastor at Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas and I am a homeschooling mom, as well as director of a homeschool enrichment program at First Colleyville. We have 3 biological children: Luke is 19 and a freshman at The College at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Grace is 16 and Moriah is 8.
In 2012, I first felt God speak to my heart while reading “Choosing to See” by Mary Beth Chapman. God called in many little whispers over the next few years. In 2013 Grace, was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and even in the hospital, we continued to hear this call, even now to a child with needs we felt God was preparing us for. Our church then began an orphan care ministry called P127 and as Brad preached on Orphan Sundays, God spoke to him too. At a pastor’s prayer retreat in spring of 2016, we both felt that God gave the definite GO to take the first steps. Our hearts’ desire is simply to be a family to a child who needs one. We began working with Lifeline Children’s Services of Alabama in June 2016. A 3yo little girl from China caught our eye and we began praying about whether God may have chosen her for us. We researched more about her special needs: congenital heart defect, as well as her possible diagnosis of Neurofibromatosis, or NF1. Speaking to a mother of a child with NF1 gave us great peace in this calling and we prayerfully decided to begin the process to bring home our daughter, “Lottie” named after a missionary to China, who is dear to our hearts.
The biggest challenge is not opening our hearts and home to a child, but it is finding the finances to make this happen. The estimated total cost for the adoption is $30,000, but we know God is faithful and is leading us to trust Him. Please pray and consider helping us in one or two ways with our adoption. If you have already given, we humbly thank you and pray God will bless you.
1. Please pray God would tenderly care for our daughter and her orphanage until we can bring her home, and prepare us and our other children for the upcoming changes. Pray also that God would give us wisdom, discernment and insight as we raise our precious child with special needs to know Jesus.
2. A local adoption ministry in our area called Tapestry of Irving Bible Church, has partnered with Lifesong for Orphans and committed an Adoption Matching Grant of $2500 to help pay our adoption expenses! Will you please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us meet this matching grant and cover the remaining amount needed to bring our child home? Our goal date is May 31, but funds will be accepted toward the adoption until our adoption is complete and Lottie is home.
If you’d rather mail a check, please make checks payable to “Lifesong for Orphans”. In the memo, note “family account 6646” and “family name Martin” to assure it goes to the correct account. Please mail to Lifesong for Orphans, PO Box 40, Gridley IL 61744.
Thank you for investing in the Kingdom through prayer and finances – it will be an investment with an eternal return! We’ll be updating you with pictures and details on my blog: www.martincafe.blogspot.com. Please pray this process will glorify God and fulfill His purposes.
In Christ and for His glory,
Brad & Sally Martin
