Kyah Jo and Justin Adopt!

Kyah Jo Stangl Wausau, Wisconsin

We are so excited to announce that we are ADOPTING!

You may already know that we have struggled with infertility and during these last 5 years we have experienced much joy, but also experienced loss and grief. As we were about to start fertility treatments, we felt God re-directing our paths and felt strongly led stop treatments for this time, and to pursue adoption right now! Although there is a lot of fear in uncertainty, we are ready to embrace the unknown and go in the direction where we clearly see God calling us. We love how adoption is a picture of the gospel, and, through it, we are hopeful to see our family grow.

As you may know adoption can be very expensive. We are pursuing domestic infant adoption and in our case we are expecting to see costs around 40,000 not including our home study or consulting fees. Some of these expenses include agency and lawyer fees, travel expenses, medical care and counseling for expectant mother, and much more. If you are interested in partnering with us by giving financially we would be deeply grateful! If you would like to simply follow along with our adoption journey, offering supportive prayers and encouragement that means just as much to us.

Update: We recently got matched with an expectant mother and baby boy due early December in Florida! We also are so grateful to have received a $3500 matching grant from Elmbrook Church Adoption Fund, adminstered by Lifesong for Orphans! That means if we raise $3500 we will be able to put $7000 towards our adoption expenses. Our goal date is December 3rd, but funds will be accepted until our adoption is complete and we are all home together.

If you would like to give financially, you may donate online or by check.

Adoption update

March 31, 2020

I debated if and when we should share this news. So many of you have followed our adoption journey and prayed for us and supported us in more ways than one. To be honest, I think I feel a little guilty for sharing more sad news and taking you all on this emotional rollercoaster with us.  We love when we can share the highs with you of this adoption journey, but also with the highs, come lows, and we want to be honest with you about those too.

About 2 weeks after we learned that our first adoption match was not continuing, we received the news that we were matched again with an expectant mother due in just a couple of weeks. On January 8th we got the call that baby was coming any day and we needed to get on a plane as soon as possible! A beautiful baby boy was born the next day and for the next 2 weeks Justin and I cared for him loved him unconditionally. Receiving the call that we would not be able to bring baby boy home with us was heartbreaking. I apologize for being so vague, but we want to protect baby and his mother and not share too many details about this difficult situation.

We had no idea that you could fall in love so quickly with a child, or how many memories we made within the first two weeks of his life.  Sometimes it all feels like a dream, we are still processing and grieving.  I remember being so tired as we were up every few hours with him, but so overjoyed. So overjoyed that sleepless nights meant I was a mother. May I never take for granted the gift we are given if we ever get to be parents again.

I wish you all could have met him, I don’t have anything to compare him to, but boy was he special. He was so content, happy, and every time you looked at him you couldn’t help but smile. I find myself staring at his photo, and tears of joy and sadness fill my eyes. In those moments everything I had hoped and prayed for was real and I never want to forget those times with him. I think my heart grew 10 times seeing Justin as father. He’s going to be a good father someday and I can’t wait until that day comes. We learned alot in those 2 weeks, parenting wise, and about our relationship with God. It’s hard to put into words, and sometimes I wonder if people think we’re not being honest, but amidst our heartbreak we’ve felt joy unexplainable. God has continually shown us how he lovingly sustains us and protects our faith. Really the big struggle right now is grief, and there’s a hole in our hearts and we feel a little empty. I think there will always be peiece of our hearts that baby boy holds and although we may never see him again, I’m thankful to have known him. What’s hard is that we can’t walk around the grief, we walk through it and someday this will all be made new.

We’re not giving hope dear ones, and please don’t either. This chapter of our lives for now is closed, but we know that this isn’t the end.
