We have always wanted to have a family, and when we got married in 2011 we couldn’t wait to pursue our dream together. However, after just a few months of trying to conceive, Michelle had a suspicion that something just wasn’t right. Three months of negative pregnancy tests turned into six, which turned into a year, which turned into two…and our dreams of building a family seemed further out of reach. After three different doctors and countless tests, we finally found out what was wrong. Michelle was diagnosed with PCOS and Stage IV endometriosis. In June of 2014 Michelle underwent a six-hour surgery to remove the endometriosis, and six months later, by a miracle of God, we conceived our daughter, Catherine Grace. The struggle of the previous three years disappeared in an instant and we found a joy that was so complete we were bursting!
We had hoped that this was the answer: now our family could grow as we had dreamed! However, once we started trying to conceive again, we were met with the same stream of negative pregnancy tests. Devastated once again, and longing so deeply to give Catherine a sibling, we decided to do all we could to get to the bottom of whatever was preventing us from conceiving once again. Over the past two years, Michelle has endured over 80 doctor appointments, various types of fertility drugs, over 40 blood tests, and numerous diets, supplements and alternative medicine approaches. Countless prayers have been offered and innumerable tears shed for the gift of a new baby. Throughout this difficult journey, we have drawn near to our Lord and we have been blessed with a profound trust in God’s love and care, even when His plans seem so mysterious.
The Lord’s Gift
In the midst of our trials, we realized that the Lord has been slowly but surely giving us a most beautiful and unexpected gift: an increasing desire to open our hearts and home to a child through adoption! As we began to hear this call and learn more about the adoption process, we became excited and convinced that the love and care we have in our hearts was meant to be given to a baby in need! We couldn’t wait to begin. In the summer of 2018 the home-study process was underway, and after completing stacks of paperwork we became an official waiting family in October. For ten months we prayed constantly to be successfully matched and as different cases came and went, we experienced the roller-coaster of emotions that is such a part of the adoption process.
Just last week we received a long-awaited call from our case worker: she said there was a birth mom who had found our online profile and was seeking us out as adoptive parents for her son! So many aspects of the situation resonated deeply with us–even the seemingly superfluous, like the fact that the birth mom also has red hair and freckles like Michelle! 🙂 We are beyond excited to travel to Michigan for the birth of our son in early September (due Sept 3rd). Amazingly, if all goes according to plan, we will be able to be present in the hospital room to receive the baby at birth and welcome him into the world! Then, provided the placement is successful, we will welcome the baby boy into our home! We trust deeply in the Lord throughout this process, and we have great hope that everything will continue to unfold according to His plan!
We need your help…
One of the greatest challenges of our adoption journey is its expense. Between legal fees, medical expenses, agency fees, and travel the adoption is going to cost approximately $49,000. We have already managed to pay an initial $20,000 of the cost and have been blessed to receive $6,000 in grants. Would you consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us cover the cost of the remaining $23,000 of adoption expenses to bring our son home? We are trusting in the Lord to help us overcome this challenging financial burden, and we are relying on donations from family and friends to help us make this little boy part of our family!
Any donation (however small) you could make towards our adoption would be be SO appreciated!!!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We are so excited to start this new adventure and open our hearts and home to our new baby boy! We love you all and will be keeping you all in our prayers – please do keep us in yours!
*In the rare case that the placement falls through, Michelle and Matthew would soon be matched with a new birth mom and all donated money would be carried over to fund their future adoption.
