Kenney Snowflake Adoption

Tyler and Kristen Kenney
Tyler and Kristen Kenney Deland, Florida

NOTE: We are so thankful for the Lord’s provision! We have met our matching goal of $5,000, which will help meet the anticipated $20,000 total cost for our adoption. Though additional donations will not be matched, they will still go toward our adoption and are tax-deductible.

—————

Hello! Thank you for your care for us and our adoption journey. We are excited to share with you where God is leading our family.

Early in our marriage we talked about the beauty of adoption and the glorious way it illustrates God’s adoption of his children into his family. Some of you know that we struggled with infertility for almost five years before the Lord blessed us with sweet James. During that season, we often considered whether adoption might be God’s plan for our family.

In 2018 we decided that we would try one last fertility treatment and begin the adoption process. We met with an adoption agency, felt the Lord drawing our hearts toward domestic adoption, and were planning to complete our adoption application when Tyler asked, “Shouldn’t we wait to see if we’re pregnant?” And one week later, we found out we were pregnant with James! God’s timing amazes us.

But we know that our family is not complete. As James approached his first birthday and we discussed how we might grow our family, we prayed for God’s clear guidance on whether to continue with fertility treatments or pursue adoption. As we prayed, we both became excited about growing our family through adoption, and we reached out to Nightlight Christian Adoptions to learn which program might be best for our family.

When we first heard about Nightlight’s Snowflakes Frozen Embryo adoption program, it initially seemed a bit sci-fi and we weren’t sure it was for us. But as we learned more, it became clear to us that the Lord was calling us to adopt these tiny babies! We are excited to provide our six adopted embryos with a chance to be born.

Our embryo adoption will cost $20,000, which includes agency fees, home study fees, and medical procedures to implant our embryo babies (frozen embryo transfers). We are blessed to have received a $5,000 matching grant through the adoption fund at Saint Andrew’s Chapel.

We are grateful for all of your love, prayers, and support during this exciting and wild journey! Please pray with us for the health and safety of our embryo babies, and for wisdom and patience as we wait to see what the Lord has in store for our family.

First Ultrasound – Good!

January 10, 2022

We are moving forward with preparations for a transfer this month. Kristen has been cleared to begin taking medications this week, and will have another ultrasound on 1/15 to see if the meds are having the intended effect. If all looks good, we will keep moving forward with the next round of medications next week.

As the potential transfer date gets closer, we feel increasingly desperate to pray that the Lord would be pleased to grant long life and health to our adopted frozen babies. Please join us in praying for the babies to survive the thaw, for the medications to prepare an ideal environment, and for successful implantation.

Biopsy Results – Good!

December 31, 2021

Thank you for your prayers. We received a report that the biopsy results were normal, which means we could begin the transfer preparation process as soon as next week. We praise the Lord for this exciting news!

The preparation process will take about two weeks, and will involve Kristen taking several different medications. Our doctor will perform an ultrasound at each step to see how things are progressing. As we mentioned earlier, each step could result in a “no-go” if things aren’t looking quite right. The transfer date is still a moving target, but if everything is “ready for launch”, it would take place in the third or fourth week of January.

Please pray that the upcoming medications would create an ideal environment for the babies to implant, and for the babies to survive the thawing and implantation processes. We are excited and hopeful for what the next few weeks may have in store for our family! We will keep you in the loop as we know more details.

Lab Results

December 13, 2021

Thank you for your prayers! Kristen’s lab results show normal thyroid levels, which means the medication is doing its job and we can move forward to prepare for a transfer in January. This Friday, 12/17, Kristen will undergo a biopsy to make sure everything is ready to go for a transfer. We appreciate your prayers that everything would go smoothly with no complications. And we wish you a very Merry Christmas!

Appointment Update

November 20, 2021

Thank you for your prayers for our appointment on 11/17. We were amazed and encouraged by how well our fertility team understands our adoption situation, and our desires to honor our frozen embryos as babies. We received an outline of the proess to prepare Kristen for the embryo transfer, which we are likening to a NASA launch date. We will have tentative plans in place, but at any point, labs or ultrasound results could mean a “no go”, and the transfer would be postponed until the next month.

The next step is for Kristen’s thyroid levels to normalize. If the current medication is effective, in December Kristen will begin further preparation for a transfer in January. Please join us in praying for patience as we await the Lord’s timing, and for the Lord to prepare our hearts as we wait to see what He has in store for our family. And, please continue to pray that our frozen embryo babies would survive the thawing and implantation process.

Thank you for your continued prayers!

Shipment Update

November 10, 2021

Hello Friends,

We have three updates to share with you, along with new prayer requests.

  1. Today we received word that our embryos have been shipped and safely arrived at our fertility clinic here in Orlando. We praise the Lord for this exciting news! We know this safe shipment is a direct answer to your prayers. We were surprised to learn the embryos had already shipped, but we are glad for this happy news. It feels more tangible to have our adopted embryos near our family.

  1. Kristen’s lab work has revealed mild hypothyroid levels that need to be resolved before we can schedule our first frozen embryo transfer. Kristen will start a prescription for one month to bring her thyroid to acceptable levels. Please join us in praying that the medication will bring about the expected results, and for minimal side effects.

  1. We have an important appointment with our fertility clinic on 11/17. Please pray for wisdom and agreement between us and our doctor as we determine the details of the medical procedures – specifically how many embryos to thaw and implant per transfer.

Thank you for signing up to receive our updates! We are excited to share this first bit of news with you.

Today we received word that we have moved into the shipping phase of our adoption. This means that our adoption has been finalized, and Snowflakes will begin working with our local fertility clinic to transport our embryo babies to Central Florida.

We praise the Lord for this progress and ask for your prayers for good communication and for the many details to get smoothed out. We will send another update once we know the actual transport date.
