Our story started with vulnerable children at the heart of it. Before the two of us ever met, the Lord stirred within our hearts individually to care for sick, orphaned, and vulnerable children around the world. In 2017 Katie moved to rural Haiti to work as a pediatric nurse. During that same time, Taylor was on the other side of the world in Kenya, also feeling the burden of vulnerable children. God moved him to start a children’s home- now known as Zoe Ministries, that rescues orphaned children by placing them in loving homes with Kenyan parents. Because of our shared passion of reaching the least of these, we were introduced by mutual friends and we connected instantly. We actually talked about adoption on our first date!
God has since blessed us with the gift of marriage and the privilege of building a life together. While many things have changed since we first met, our desire to serve children in need has remained a central focal point in our home. Now that we are looking to start a family, we find it perfectly fitting to do so through adoption. There isn’t a more beautiful depiction of the Gospel than the picture of adoption. We are reminded in Galatians 4:4 that, “When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law to redeem those under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons.” It is only because of Jesus that we might be called children of God. Despite our transgressions, we are adopted into His family through the blood of Jesus. By taking part in earthly adoption, we pray that the Lord reveals more of Himself to us. We want to experience our own adoption story in a new way. Being able to give a child a loving home and tell them of the Life to be found in Christ will truly be our greatest honor.
We invite you to join us in the beauty and blessing of adoption. As Christians, it is our responsibility to be at the forefront of orphan care- however that may look. This calling looks different for us all, and our prayer is that the Lord stirs within our friends and neighbors to identify how that looks in their own lives. Some people will be led to love on adopting or foster families, some will be led to adopt themselves, while others may feel God leading them to give financially to an orphan care ministry. We urge you to ask the Lord to show you His designed role for you as a member of His Body as we collectively care for orphans around the world. If you would like to partner with us financially as we bring our children home from Hungary, we would be eternally grateful. We have been graciously awarded a $4,000 matching grant from Colonial Heights Baptist Church Adoption Fund, administered by Lifesong for Orphans. All donations will go directly to our adoption expenses. This is a huge blessing!
We welcome your advice and encouragement as we step into this new season of parenthood. We covet your prayers, and we are humbled by your gifts. Without the Body of Christ, this would not be possible so we thank you for walking alongside us.
