The Journey to Baby Gray 2.0

David and Ashley Gray
David and Ashley Gray Lumberton, Mississippi

We are the Gray family- David, Ashley and Matthew!  David is a pastor and Ashley is a social worker who previously worked in foster care and adoption for 12 years. Matthew is a very active little boy who is ready to be a big brother! We have been married for seven years.

Adoption has always been a part of our family’s story- even when we were dating. We knew that adoption would be a part of our family but thought that it would happen after we had biological children. Shortly after we married, we learned that having biological children would not be possible without intensive infertility treatments. We began praying and realized that adoption was the way that God wanted to grow our family. We started the adoption process in January 2014 and welcomed Matthew in May 2014 with just 12 hours notice! When we talked about adoption, we talked about “bringing home Baby Gray.”

We began the adoption process for Baby Gray 2.0 in August 2018. In October 2018, we experienced a devastating adoption scam. We moved forward and were approached in January 2019 by an acquaintance about adopting her baby. She ultimately decided to parent, which we are thankful for and supported her.

We’ve learned that adoption is more about our sanctification than anything else. This journey has taught us so much about God’s faithfulness and His timing. We know that He is working even when we can’t see it.

We also know that adoption is near to God’s heart and “He funds what He favors.” We saw Him provide every dime for Matthew’s adoption and we know that He will do the same with this adoption. We are so thankful to have been awarded a $2500 matching grant through Colonia Heights Baptist Church's Hearts of Compassion adoption ministry!

A huge thank you for supporting us and praying with us as we journey to Bring Baby Gray 2.0 home.

Homestudy Update completed!!!

February 25, 2020

Our homestudy update is officially completed!! This is such a HUGE next step for us as we can now officially present to situations. We’ve seen a few situations from our consultant in the past few weeks but none have been a good fit for us to apply- for a number of different reasons. So now we wait and we pray that God will move in His time.

Almost to the Finish Line

January 20, 2020

We had our last homestudy meeting on Saturday! This means we’re almost to the finish line with paperwork. As of some you may know, we ran into a major roadblock with updating our homestudy. Due to our social worker retiring and pretty significant changes in MS requirements for homestudies, we had to find a new agency to do our update and this meant starting over from scratch- everything: background checks, medicals, references, education. This also meant that we had to be on hold with presenting to active situations, but God doesn’t waste anything. This gave us time to work on additional fundraising, which included applying for grants. We found out that we were approved for a Lifesong grant right before Christmas! We’ve still got a few little things to turn in and our social worker has 2 weeks to submit her final draft to the agency so fingers crossed that we’ll be done by February- but with adoption, you throw every timeline out the window and trust God’s timing.
